I knew someone would bring up the rain issue. You know Chicago gets 1/3 more rain than seattle averaged on a yearly basis? It really doesnt rain THAT much here. Its just in the winter/late fall it gets very gray and depressing (hence why tacoma was rated #1 most depressing city in the US - time magazine)

The summer and spring in washington is bar none the best in the US in my opinion. Clear blue skies, awesome looking city thats not too big and not too small, hills, awesome water, biggest mountains all around you, etc...

If you appreciate earth I dont see how you couldnt like it. I mean, if you want sun 99% of the time, sure move to southern california. To me however, its too hot in the summer, dry, everythings dead, no mountains, etc.. etc..

Then again, I like the hipster little shops and pubs around greenlake (seattle) and I hike all the time. I try to use everything that is avaliable in washington as far as landscape goes.

So tell me the bad stuff about seattle.

to the best of my knowledge puerto rico is the only place belonging to the US with an actual rain forest. considering it gets cold in washington i doubt you have a real rain forest, part of the definition is year-round tropical temps.

kevin.

Actually, it is a rain forest. Youre thinking of tropical rain forests. A rain forest doesnt need to be in a tropical region. The Hoe rain forest is the only rain forest in the US.

I'm not sure biggest volcanos is a good thing. "California is the best state because we have the biggest earthquakes!"

it may not rain but it is constantly gray, the average temperatures are cold and most of the year it's too cold, too wet to do most of the outdoor activities that make it such a nice place to live.

It has some of the worst traffic in the us, most of the people that live in the greater seattle area have an hour or better commute, which means that you will spend greater then 10 hours of each day involved in your employment, subtract 8 hours sleep and that's a max of 6 hours to spend with your loved one's each night. It is IMHO a more stressfull environment for most of it's citizens, people are very punctual and on the whole tend to take life too seriously.

The ONLY thing that i miss about seattle is it's love for coffee and micro brews, the annaul rain fall may be less then many other areas, however those areas tend to have rainy seasons.... south florida is a great example, it's rains here the sky gets gray and 20 minutes later it's beautiful blue skies are back.

Tacoma has the highest suicide rate per capita of any city in the US, it is fact a very depressing place to live and it does have an effect on you over the long haul.

Not everyone that lives there travels 6 months of the year.

It has some of the highest unwed mothers per capita in the US and if you date one of them and live with one of them for over 12 months you will become legally responsible for the children.

On a side note it is nice during the summer. For the most part everyone I know from seattle will tell you how great it is, they also can't fathom why anyone would want to live anywhere else and even though many are liberal they have a fairly narrow minded attitude when it comes to the short comings of their home state, I guess most of us do, but I'd be more then happy to give you all the shortcomings of living in florida or any place I live.

If you like a mild year round climate with no seasons (summer warm rain, winter cold rain) seattle is the place for you. Shitty fishing that's been destroyed by native americans and long commutes on poorly maintained highways then seattle is for you. If you like overwhelmingly high sin taxes (the highest tobacco tax in the us 136%), state controlled liquor and tripping over bums on your way out of downtown bars then you've got a new home. Seattle loves homeless people, it doesn't try to the help them, but it doesn't disturb them.

I can see your points scott. I think everyone in washington will agree that winter isnt fun here (excpet for the great snow sports) and Tacoma is a **** hole.

I guess I also dont sit in traffic everyday... I would hate that. I also dont smoke or drink so I dont really pay any sin taxes.

But hey, the summers here are splendid! And having the biggest volcanos is pretty bad ***, they are so massive and breath taking. Not to mention all the great hikes. It isnt exactly like they blow up every 5 years... lol
