Oil leak
My '84 7 has been setting in a guys yard for two years, I found it and bought, after a tune up and several new parts (starter, alt, bat... ect) I drove it this weekend about 100 miles for the break in and got on it pretty good. I LOVE DRIVING IT!!!!!!!
the reason for this message is that a considerable leak has developed. As from what i can see the leak starts (looking at from the driver's side) to the right of the spark plugs about five or so inches back.
Any suggestions on what it is? SEAL? Loose bolt? Can someone give a place to start from?
It only leaks when the car is running, but when it is running it is a considerable leak.
Today is suday and i have free long distance so you can call me and i will call you back cause i need to get this fixed, because i love driving it. 812-371-2767 or email me with suggestions

See this is what I was talking about ..we need more technical help with people needing info like this ..But the lines to the cooler are coolant lines............
ok here it goes ..your 84/85 rx 7s have an oil cooler where the oil filter sits on top of unlike the 79-83 where the oil cooler sits infront of the car by the radiator.
If i can remeber right .its a 2 peice set up ..and inside theres 2 o-rings that go bad...its better if you buy a Hayes or Chilton manual to see a good illistration....
This is something you should try on your own if you have any mechanical experiance the o-rings should not cost you no more than 10-15$ and i would get them Mazda parts only..
Just try not to damage the coolant hoses and heater core hoses..they are kinda expensive..and most Mazda dealerships dont stock them.
If you need any help on your 1st gen you can e mail me @
