both are excellent cars, great quality, and parts are easy to get for them. stay away from other brands, trust me!
The key to owning one and having it last is maintenance. Break in the engine as the manual says, and squirt a drop or 2 of marvel mystery oil in the engine at the end of each day. do this and the engine will last forever

one thing, if you work mostly on 1/1 scale cars and are new to r/c's, you might want to look into the slightly larger scale cars like 1/8 scale gas buggies. The design and material quality increases greatly, everything is significantly larger, stronger, heavier (and more expensive...) but it's alot easier to work on and abuse without having frustrating stupid breakages.
case in point:
1/8 scale gas buggy jumps over garage
That car appears to be a kyosho inferno. my coworker has a 1/10 scale rc10t he jumps in the cubicle farm over here all the time, he breaks suspension pieces after jumpg a fraction of that height. If you like to abuse em, you'll appreciate the more durable 1/8 scale vehicles. I've got a mugen mbx 4 1/8 scale gas buggy and I was sore after putting it together as if I had been working on my real car all day, it's nutty.

I've had good experience with kyosho and team losi also. Associated has always been a decent company, I've owned 5 vehicles from them.

Also I think most people here would be more into a touring car, just becouse of the bodies available, and accesories.
Wanna race, I'll pull out my super secret kit.
Yes...real, functional RC nitrous !!!!

he also broke a motor (shattered the magnets) when it landed on it's *** end once. The ground in the office isnt exactly soft, and the motor is hanging off the back of the thing. I don't understand why those rc's don't come with bump stops stock. If you simply follow the instructions of the kit you end up with a chassis that smacks the ground after high jumps, you've gotta find some fuel tubing and put it over the shaft of the shocks to keep from slamming the chassis.

Must be one brittle truck.
Ive put a 5ft+ board on a standing up garbage can and jumped onto concrete. Smacked the *** every time, didnt break a thing. Just scratched the rear skidplate some.
