Come on guys, ricers all do drive 10 second cars, all you gotta do is the math, start with stock then add 40HP for the kazoo muffler, 20 for the yellow stickers and 25 for the 747 wing, and ****, watch out cuz this is one fiendish front wheel drive!

Lets see VW's...I've owned:
62 Rag Top, restored, sold it
Two 73 Fast Backs, one with the stock injection
69 Bug, not...stock
67 Bus
73 Bus (AHHH TYPE 4 MOTOR! RUN RUN RUN!)
61 Bug, de rust bucket
68 Bug it was an autostick, then I fixed it
My cousin had a squareback and a 69, then a 71 we fixed up and sold.
I used to work for a VW shop in Bakersfield called "The Bugg Inn" Ghias, notchbacks, a couple of Type 181's (Things for those of you not up on VW speak)
I've been VW less for several years now. Starting to get the itch to get a new one. . .hrmmmm....
Always wanted to find a Type III ghia, ugly little things that they are. that and a notchback.

coolness. ive got a 67 vert and a 61 ghia coupe. always wanted a notchback, though. was looking for one when i found the ghia and since couldnt find a notchback, bought it. i like the ghia and all, wanted to do a rotary swap into it, but them notchbacks are sweet. Im considering selling the ghia fixing the rx7 and take my time finding the notchback. everyone tells me to keep the ghia, but id like to get a car real back seat. The one thing holding me back from the notchback is the engine. Im trying to figure out how much performance can be stuffed in the engine compartment and still be able to close the cover.
Wouldnt mind a bus, though. well thats life.
hope you find that notchback.

I've also had a bunch of VWs(I could probibly take the engine apart and put it back together blindfolded!) Once had a cherry '63 7 door van that was made into a camper(I'd love to have that one back!) While in Alaska I once built an airboat with a VW engine.

Notchbacks are of course rare as they never imported them to the US, same with the 21 window microbus.
You can do a lot more then you'd expect performance wise. I've seen a setup with dual 40 Dells or Webers in place, 041 heads on a 1766cc motor. Plenty fast
Heck even VW had a dual carb set up for the fastback squareback before they went to the injection system. That or that funky sidedraft carb they used. Bizzaaree!
I'd like to get a bus and put a rotary in it, it's one of my little ideas. The catch is that I doubt I'll find a bus that's not rusted out in the midwest. Back in Bakersfield they are a dime a dozen.
I miss the VW scene in a lot of ways.
A notch would be cool, still looking for that Type III Ghia tho!
What are you running engine wise in the Ghia?
CB Performence makes a lot of great speed equipment for the ACVW. They have a streetable turbo engine that will fit under a stock bug hood. I've bought a lot of things from them for my Kelmark/Turbo II (Bug pan) kit car project.
Yeah they make a real nice 1909cc turbo kit. They also make individual heads per cylinder which is a neat mod. Allows you to go nuts with compression ratios on race motors.
Gene Berg is another good performance shop
