Hello group! I have a Formula A (SCCA) Ralt RT-4 race car. I am looking to put a Mazda engine in it. I called one guy on the west coast and he wanted over $18,000 for a motor with webers 48 but no exhaust. One builder in Flordia was higher then this. There is a Mazda shop in town that builds local street racers cars and he said he could build me a high H/P motor with= 48 webers, dry sumped, hardened gears, raceing bearings, lightened routers, lightened couter balancers and lightened fly wheel, 1 piece apex seals, bridge ported, for $5000. My question is: is the difference in cost worth it? You now what I mean is it only mark up or can they be worth all the difference in price? Looking forward to your replies.

where are you located?

and what shops in particular have you gotten these quotes from?

if the place in florida happens to be CLR Carlos Lopez Racing, i wouldn't spend 18k with them...
