Nopistons:

Been awhile since I was last on the board. I joined up mostly to read up on FDs should I ever be in the situation to buy one. Well, that situation is upon me. A local guy is selling his FD, and I'm losing the tranny in my current car.

Info:

93 Rx7 Vintage Red Touring model 5spd 96k mi on the chassis The engine has around 11k mi on it including a 1,400 mi trip to West Palm beach. P'cola FD (Danny) did the engine rebuild. He replaced all parts that where not within spec, including new rotor housings and a new front plate. I just had the turbos rebuilt and haven't even boosted them yet. The wastegate has been ported to help control the boost, and the are still under warranty with BNRsupercars from Birmingham Al.

MODS

-Small street ported motor

-All emission stuff removed and blocked off

-Turbos are setup full non sequential

-ACT steet/strip clutch

-What vacum lines are left are silicone

-Haltech E6K EMS

-Greddy Profec B boost controller

-Greddy Stock mount intercooler

-Apex intakes

-Pettit downpipe and midpipe

-HKS Catback exhaust

-Greddy alternator and water pump pulleys

-Supra TT fuel pump

-Injectors cleaned and balanced by RC engineering

-Autometer boost, water, and oil pressure gauges

-99 R1 front spoiler lip

-Wheels are painted black with a clear coat

I have also replaced tons small parts that are prone to failure and have the receipts for almost everything. We took it to Pettit racing in West Palm Beach to have it tuned after the rebuild. I asked for very conservative timing and fuel, as I could not afford another rebuild. It made 290rwhp at only 11psi in 3rd gear with the stock clutch slipping. I am convinced that it is 300+rwhp with the upgraded clutch and capable of much more with more agressive tuning and more boost. I have not drove the car much since the motor rebuild. I had to replace the turbos and I lost my license. It has been to the autox once and has seen no other track time. I have a Veilside front bumper if the buyer wants it. Also a R1 rear spoiler that I planned to have installed.

Minor problems: The 5th gear synchro is starting to go bad. It grinds a bit when going into 5th at higher speeds. There are 8 bolt holes in the rear hatch from a previous wing. This should only cost a couple hundred bucks to get repaired and painted. The front left wheel has a scuff in the paint from the dyno strap. I can't seem to get the speedo working after installing the Haltech. I'll try to have that fixed before I sale it.

The price is really good. And the normal maintenence scares aren't there any more thanks to the new engine and turbos. So, the syncros and the wing holes are the only really major issues with the car.

What do you guys think? What kind of things should I be thinking about? I can get the loan no problem.

I would not recommend a USED FD as your primary means of transportation.

UNLESS:

You can afford to rent a car for 2-3 weeks at a time

Have access to a REALLLY good mechanic you trust and can depend on
