Ok, I found a 89 RX7 NA, convertable, black with black leather. I has the nice factory wheels, self leveling system, power everything, 5 speed box and a straight body with just a few scratches. The top is in good shape, just a little dirty with no holes. The bad part, the engine has been hacked! Most visible wiring is cut and just twisted together and exposed, the air intake and mass flow meter are gone, the exhaust was cut off ahead of the cat, all of the power buttons are broken or missing. I dont know how it runs yet, I am going back saturday to check further. He want 1400.00 for it at a used lot. Is this car worth the money, I did talk him down to 1000.00. Any ideas, or should I look for a car in better mechanical shape? The car has 102,000 miles by the odometer. I know it has potential, please help, what would my fellow 7 enthusiasts do?

hmm youll have to fix the wiring harness if you get it and you cant drive it without the intake and sensor.

Id say its a good deal if you want to do the work to get it back in shape.

The guy promised that I could drive it Sat. He said he had a brand new intake and mass meter, so I dont know. I will have to inspect when and if he gets it put back. I almost wrecked my company truck when I saw it. I guess I have the fever and I dont want to get burned. I will be spending more on my 88 that what I can sell her for, no plans to sell, but I will be spending close to 4k by the time I get fresh paint with rims and rubber. So I dont know. What typically is a car worth that is borderline driveable?

i say go for it, but you're in for a little project. Usually that wiring stuff isn't real difficult or expensive, just annoying.

Don't start collecting junk man.. easier said than done but a lot of these cars are easy to pick up now for around a grand barely running and of course its tempting to buy them for no practical reason. I mean, I daily drive one of mine but 12-15 mpg sucks! Just my 2 cents but if he can get it driving good for you, then I'd consider it. That wiring deal sounds suspect...

Thanks for the ideas, and like you said FCmania, I dont want to start collecting junk. I can however, do most of the work myself including the wiring, and when I am done, with both cars, I will have something special, a garage full of 7's,(two car garage). Anyway, really, thanks guys, I think I am going to buy it.
