I guess if someone was bored out of thier mind and really loved to sand, but jesus what an incredible waste of time. Buy the materials and rent time in the booth at a community college, rent the tools and do it in your garage, anything would be better than spending that much time, that much effort to get a car painted.

not everyone can spray good enough to produce a quality paintjob. its a cheap alternative, if you cant spray well enough, and dont want to pay a rediculous amount to get it done why not? i mean if the car is just a beater theres no point in investing in a quality paint job.

What i dont understand is why someone with 3-4 grand cant get a car painted.

Ive never seen a car painted with rust-oleum, cant knock it til I see it I guess.

u could take it in to the local maco or earl sheib and get the $150 special, safe the labor, save the costs of materials and have a slightly less shitty paint job.

phinsup 09-08-2006 03:37 PM

and $50 obviously just covers the paint, you tried to buy a good roller, masking tape and don't forget the sandpaper. My guess is, assuming you count your own time as being worth nothing you are looking at closer to $100 in materials. counting your own time on projects is a subject you dont want to get me started on, i find people RARELY figure in their own time when doing things and to me, time is my most valuable asset.

Yeah, a lot of people might not know what they're getting into when they take on a project like this. The hours can add up fast. Take me, for example. I'm attempting to replace the entire rocker panel on my '66 Chevy II. I've got a few hours of drilling out about a million spot welds and I still don't have the damn thing off the car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

I would rather drive a faded crappy paint car then something other people will look at and say "WHO THE **** PAINTED THAT THING????????????"

That thought has not escaped me. Fortunately I know a couple of people who can weld.
