wow, that's high class!
|
thats some huge thread
"I CANT WAIT UNTIL I HAVE 10 COATS OF PAINT" yeah helloooooooooooooo! and another favorite line : "may try and hunt down some regular mineral spirits, but I would like to see this through. I am legally bilnd, do not have a driver's license... Ironically, I'm building a Kitt car 69chargeryeehaa, photo op after I paint'er up? " so apparantly the choice of blind people everywhere! |
great stuff
|
jesus tits that's funny
"just roll the paint on, then sand, then roll, then sand, then roll, then sand, then roll, then sand, then roll, then sand, then roll, then sand...etc" I bet that's his charger too |
Well, yes. It is rather unconventional. But I don't doubt that with a good bit of time invested you could get a pretty decent looking paint job.
|
Jesus christ! "I rolled my car" what in the mother **** is this world coming too? That has to be a bullshit story, I mean really, why bother! Who in thier right mind would put that many hours into a paint job.
"hey Jerky, the other day I painted my car with a roller and a brush" |

I guess if someone was bored out of thier mind and really loved to sand, but jesus what an incredible waste of time. Buy the materials and rent time in the booth at a community college, rent the tools and do it in your garage, anything would be better than spending that much time, that much effort to get a car painted.

I consider this topic a joke, not a real INT/EXT thread https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

What i dont understand is why someone with 3-4 grand cant get a car painted.
Ive never seen a car painted with rust-oleum, cant knock it til I see it I guess. |
u could take it in to the local maco or earl sheib and get the $150 special, safe the labor, save the costs of materials and have a slightly less shitty paint job.
|
and $50 obviously just covers the paint, you tried to buy a good roller, masking tape and don't forget the sandpaper. My guess is, assuming you count your own time as being worth nothing you are looking at closer to $100 in materials. counting your own time on projects is a subject you dont want to get me started on, i find people RARELY figure in their own time when doing things and to me, time is my most valuable asset.

Yeah, a lot of people might not know what they're getting into when they take on a project like this. The hours can add up fast. Take me, for example. I'm attempting to replace the entire rocker panel on my '66 Chevy II. I've got a few hours of drilling out about a million spot welds and I still don't have the damn thing off the car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

i would do that in a second except that when i repaint my car i want snow white pearl mica....d'oh!
ghetto fabulous rules the day |
id do it, but my uncle owns a paint booth, so i only have to pay for paint. besides, i dont have the patience to use a roller.
|
i cant imagine someone painted that charger or that bug with a roller.... props if he did but he says he didnt use any clear coats and that charger is reflecting everything.
kevin. |
Back in the 80's my uncle painted his house and used the leftovers ot paint the old beater 77 El Camino with a roller. Man that was funny... It was a puke green color, turned it into a off white. It was a good 40 footer. I don't think he used the paint, sand, paint, sandpaint, sand, paint, sandpaint,sa nd,paint, sandpaint, sand, paint, sand method though. One thick coat is all he needed https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

actaully the close up pics of the charger and bug both indicated a shitty paint job, i hink it would be funny as hell though if the guy had it painted professionally then tricked a bunch of morons into painting their car with a roller.
It doesn't matter how much you sand, that fucker sits int he sun and you are going to have orange peel city, not to mention the reality that after 10 coats, the **** will peel right off, both of those points were mentioned by people who tried it. I can think of no situation where the existing paint job is so bad a roller job would look better, i'd rather look like a I can't afford a decent car then like I'm too inept, too cheap or just a big enough idiot to roller job my ride. |
I would have to see them in person, but you could never convince me that if those cars were left OUTSIDE for 6 years the paint would still be on them.
And rollers and tape will cost way more then $25, tape is like $3-$5 per roll https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif you also left out the cost of the sandpaper, compound, pads, etc.. |
Yeah, I thought about it some more, broke down and rolled my cadillac the other day.

Allante', what a disaster for them I think they're kind of cool. Especially now, when nobody knows what the heck they are. |
