Just got back from the rotary revolution. Drove 1931 kms round trip from Toronto, Ontario Canada to Indianapolis. IAN and I (Cheers! aka Jason) left toronto at 8:30 pm thursday night and drove through the night (I had to go pick up a set of wheels in columbus Ohio). We arrived in Columbus at 5:30 am in the morning and passed out at a parking lot.

We left for Indianapolis at 8 AM friday morning and got to the hotel and pretty much crashed until lunch.

Friday night drags were canceled unfotunately. We went on saturday to IRP and it was cool. Seeing all these cool cars, some very nice 3 rotor FDs, a lot of race prep'd rx7s. IT was amazing. IAN and I bought every single spark plug from Malloy Mazda, I applogize if you tried to buy any but we were at the track at 9 AM sharp just as Malloy was unloading. "Hi we want spark plugs, how much? ok, any discount if we buy lots? Sure. Ok I will take everything you've got." that turned out to be 20 plugs

=)

Saturday was mostly autox, and the purple FD with weld racing wheels (not sure who there are) tried to do a couple of passes but the track was too cold. Did I mention how cool weld racing wheels are? Story will folow shortly for that. Autox seemed like a lot of fun, I wish I had my car there, but unfortunately the scoobie took it's place, it has 220,000 less kms and it has a suspension and tires, so it was an obvious choice. DId I mention it was cold. I was going to pack my coloumbia ski jacket, but thorugh... frig it's +22C or ~70F outide (wednesday) why the hell do I need a ski jacket. Lesson learned. I took two sweaters and the liner for the ski jacket. It was cold. I started to get sick saturday night and called it in early with a couple of beers and sleep.

Sunday the road course was open. A nice BMW 3 E36 (not sure if M or not) wrecked. We drove into IRP and saw that it was 3 feet shorter in the front and twisted. Wow what bad karma to see that as the first thing in the morning. I was hoping to do more vendor shopping or and buy something from racer parts wholesale but there were closed. I do not believe one single vendor opened for sunday. That is a shame because I still had money to spend.

Speaking of vendors. Where The F was eveyrone else. I had cash with me. I wanted to buy stuff. Things like racingbeat stuff, I wanted a carbon fibre front lip from fc3s.org. I wanted oil cooler lines. Where were all the vendors? This was my 1 chance of not having to pay for shipping and handling, taxes, and cross boarder fees. If racing beat was there I would've bought the rest of all the racing beat stuff i've been eyeing for the past 3 years.

Sunday ended early but not with a demo of a full bridge RX2 and Jim Downing's 4 Rotor. The rx2 bridge was louder than the 4 rotor btw. Wow those cars are fast.

Pictures and videos to follow. I"m going to sleep, we drove 10 hours today, and I need to be at work for 730 AM tommorrow.

Cheers to Mich for organzing a cool event. I will be back next year with my white Fcs. There were not enough white FCs at all.

I receieved some kind of notification it was happening, but judging by the 10 or so un-answered topics in the forum it would seem the event had the official, un-official boycott.

I thought nopistons.com was a sponsor.

No boycott, we sponsored last year and I like to see any rx7 related event succeed. However, I can only afford to attend/sponsor so many events. All things considered, I have little money in the budget this year for a costly sponsorship, not to mention the winter retreat and rotorfest, both of which I have a great deal of involvement with and need/want to make sure I am present. Also no offense to you indiannaites, but it would take a lot to drag me back to indiana any time soon, if they called and told me I won the lottery my first question would be how much the pay out is worth

As far as a boycott I think Nopistons got blamed for all the anti-v8 debate last year, which got pretty ugly. It's Mike, not Mich btw.

Sounds like everyone had a great time this year!

Nope, as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong Scott) there is no animosity anywhere between nopistons.com staff and Lateral G (Rotary Revolution). I was excited to see all the positive comments about the Winter Retreat though I was dis-heartened that Jim had to fork over some hard earned cash following the event (we know how you feel Jim). We are also excited to see the growth of Rotorfest this year and hope all the best for their event. If I can figure out why I'm losing fuel pressure over 3lbs of boost I might try and make the trip out for RF2005.

We hope Scott hits the lottery so he may return to the event in 2006, but we also knew he had just made a huge move down to Florida and had a lot of investment in personal business and we were not expecting him to sponsor. We hoped he would sponsor, but we knew the financial situation and were happy that Scott continued to let us have a forum area to post announcements and updates on the event. (Thanks again Scott!)

I do not look at this forum as getting the blame for the anti-v8 debate, and this time around we were much more firm regarding what non-rotary vehicle status was at the event this year. The name of the event is the ROTARY Revolution so we cordoned off special parking for the rotary attendees and had the non-rotary vehicles (regardless of make/model) park in a separate area even though they could attend as spectators and watch. Had the rain not cancelled the Rotary Challenge friday night they were more than welcome to pay the track their entrance fee and race with the piston cars, but they were not allowed to participate in the all-rotary portion of the event including the two autocross tracks.

It was interesting the amount of email's and PMs we received from non-rotary vehicle owners who felt slighted and accused the event of many things. We were also threatened at the event with a lawsuit for not allowing the V-8 Swappers to participate and they felt it necessary to partially block our entrance area and chant deragatory comments towards our attendees which wasn't appreciated, but we found it amusing that later on they decided to attend as spectators anyhow.

Thanks to those who attended and once again braved the elements. We are waiting word from the track on a possible opening in June of 2006 to move the event to a more hospitable climate. All things considered 95% of our response to the event has been overwhelmingly positive and it is appreciated. It was great to have Jim Downing, Rick Engman, Daryl Drummond, Alan Johnson, and other rotary gurus all together in one location swapping stories and sharing knowledge with the attendees.

On a note, we are very cognizent of other Rotary Events and when they are being held and are doing our best to not step on the toes of these events should we be able to move our dates back into the year some. We hope everyone checks their calendars and sets aside dates to attend some of the great events like Rotorfest, the Midwest Rotary Rally, Sevenstock, and maybe more northerners will get warm down in Florida with Scott and crew at the next Winter Retreat.

Cheers!

-Mike

This confirms the rumor that V-8 Swappers just aren't right
