Ive been tossing an idea around for a while, and wanted to know what you guys thought about it...

Has a rotary engine (besides the 787B) been used in the MR position? I've been thinking about a project-car, a Fiat X-1/9 with a 13BT, 13B-RE, or 13B-REW, and wasnt sure what to do about the transmission.. whether there was something that would bolt on (maybe from a FF car), or would I need to get an MR2 or other tranny and just try to make it fit. I like the way the fiat looks, and for the most part, they're dirt cheap, very lightweight (lighter than an fb), and pretty unknown.

Ahem, wouldn't you want to start off, with at least, a chasis/car that was already once MR?

That looks pretty "Nose heavy" to me.

The way the rotary is designed fits very well with a RWD tranny setup. I think its shear Poetry when you see a diagram/photo of just the 13b attached to a tranny, its nearly the same size! Given its size and compactness, its an awesome setup for a F-MR car.

And given that, that the Rx7's can also be considered F-M R setup, there really isn't a need to get that little guy in the back of the car, plus the whole transmission headache you'll have....

Not worth it IMO. If you want to be unique, go soup up an economy car or something, I bet NOBODY's ever thought of that!

go find that link with that lime green civic with the rotary in it....it was posted twice on the forum within the last month or so. See how they're doing it, then try to replicate...it would be awesome if you could do it into a 1g MR2. One problem though- you'd need to get pretty creative on how you're gonna cool and intercool that engine like that.

Used a Corona gearbox with a bellhousing adaptor plate. I would say go for it - the rotary will definitely fit, I've seen a v8 squeesed into one of those somewhere.

The X-1/9 is MR, the weight dist. is about 41 front, 59 rear from what ive found... Im not starting it yet, im still in college in NYC, meaning i have no garage space/money/time to work on it, but i plan on starting it as soon as im out. And as requested, the "*** shot"

up front theres just storage space, plus the radiator and various fluid reserviors (i think)... the hood does look pretty long when compared to the rest of the car, but its a pretty small car (lotus elise-size), so its not really that big. As for intercooling, i have no idea just yet, ive seen them with big snorkels that pretty much just pop up off the engine cover in back and stick up above the roll bar, i suppose you could keep the TMIC and use the snorkel for that, and keep the side vents for the intake. Maybe enlarge them to provide some engine cooling or something.
