Why would you want to spend 500 bux on a 40 gig Ipod

when you can get the Creative Labs Zen 60 gig for 400?

Granted the Zen is a little bit bigger

Size WxHxD: 2.99" x 4.43" x 0.95" (75.9 x 112.6 x 24.5 mm)

IPOD

2.4 x 4.1 x .73 inches

just don't get it

I just went down to Autobacs and bought a Kenwood in dash CD/am fm/CD-R/MP3 player. 380bux burn mp3 from my desktop to a CD....over 200 songs on a CD easy.

I'm suprised nobody has come out with a Mp3 changer yet. I want Mp3 capacity, but I'd also like to have freedom to choose my own headunit. As far as I know there are only two head units that have memory stick capacity, both made by sony and look obnoxious.

when you get an ipod, you get storage space for songs, plus you can carry regular files on it (making it an ultra portable hard drive), plus it has a datebook, address book, games. the whole thing is amazingly engineered not to mention that it looks sharp as hell.

oh yeah, also a 40 gig ipod can hold about 10,000 songs, so im guessing that a zen would hold about 15,000 songs. who the **** owns 15,000 songs? and if they do, who the **** listens to 15,000 songs on any kind of regular basis.

but whatever dude, i guess if storage is the only thing you care about, knock yourself out.

the good thing about the ipod is that it can drive good headphones. many headphone audiophiles like the ipod for that reason; it doesn't need an amplifier to drive the headphones, at least in comparison to other portable options. if i could afford it, i would definately be going with one.

I decided to go with a Sony Mini Disk Player/Recorder. It's totaly cool actually, I never looked at MD Players before and these new recording types rock. They use USB ports to record **** onto a re-writable mini disk. You can burn CD's onto the disk or MP3's or whatever. The disks are 80 minutes long but can hold 5 hours of music on one disk with Sony's compression software. Plus, the disks are a lot cheaper then Memory Sticks.

I can get 5 MD's for like 10 bucks. That's 25hours of music, plus they look cool and you can't scratch them.

Here's which one I'm looking at.

High Speed Net MD™ Walkman® Recorder

I was going to suggest it but I was going to give you a warning if you were going to buy it.

The OpenMD software to transfer music SUCKS It's bad enough to make the thing almost unuseable in some situations and just a pain in the *** in others. Your best bet is to use the simple burner tool they ship with it and create virtual CD's to rip to the MD player. It usually works.

Usually.

Otherwise the software is just pure evil. I love my MD player in spite of this, wouldn't give it up for an MP3 player.

I suspected that it wouldl suck. Hell I have a Sony laptop with OpenMG and SonicStage software and they woth suck. I had at one time ripped all of my CD's onto SonicStage and then it crashed and I lost all the songs and everything. It just sucks that Sony doesn't allow SonicStage to rip CD's into MP3 format instead of their own.

Thanks for the input RD, I'm set.

i am not a big fan of the mp3 players with huge hard drives.

just for the fact that its a hard drive.

i wanna be able to take an mp3 player snowboarding with me and not have to worry about biting it hard and breaking a plate or something.

i got one at compusa last year for $100 and its 128mb and it takes compact flash its durable and simple.

i like it.

Exactly, I like soething compact with swapable memory. I love Memory Stick becuse it's small and lght weight, but expensive and fragile. MD's are the answer.
