Problem is, if there are enough people out there who buy them as they are, I can't imagine Ford spending money making the car better. The people who buy Mustangs don't care if they fall apart in 3 years. The people who buy Camrys do.
Look at the sales numbers. The Mustang, by most measures, is a sales success. Why would Ford mess with the concept?
At least the Mustang is a helluva lot better car than the Camaro was. Remember the Camaro?
The reason the Mustang sells so well is the low price. If Ford made it better, it would cost as much as a Corvette, and people would stop buying Mustangs.

thats true about sales, why make it better when its already one of the bestsellers, i just hadnt thought of that. i dont know about the camaros, i havent had first hand experience with them. my gf has a 95 mustang that is a pos and thats why i hate mustangs, but wouldnt be against this new one if it was higher quality

i had a 95 mustang. it was a red, v6 5spd.. it had over 160,000 miles on it when i sold it... i bought it with 65,000 miles on it, and paid $8500 for it... never had any major problems.
i had it for 6 years, and replaced the clutch, waterpump, brakes and tires, and a timing cover gasket.. thats it.. i thought it was a pretty reliable car.. anything that was replaced was standard maintenance..
they are good cars if you take care of them, but if you abuse them, like any other car, you will have problems.... ford has done a good job at making a reliable, sporty and practical car thats affordable.

THOSE CAMAROS WERE JUNK, ANY CAR THAT HAS A LITTLE PUMP TO PUMP WATER OUT OF THE DISTRIBUTOR IS CRAP
