Do you take the "must have a licensed driver in passenger seat" rule seriously over there? Over here we certainly don't - as soon as you get your provisional licence we just drive alone, even though we have that rule too. In fact in up until about a year ago, Ireland used to be one of the only countries where you could just pick up a provisional licence and drive without any tests etc., and even now it's just a simple theory test (although getting a full licence requires you to pass a driving test). Just some useless trivia - also might explain to some extent our extortionate insurance rates .

I think you could drive, but if you got pulled over and caught somehow, the authorities would most definitely not let it slide.
