I don't have a dedicated Linux box yet, maybe one of these days. I just can't move over to it like I said.

hard drive (20GB or even larger can be had REAL cheap) and load it on the second hard drive... you could repartition your existing one, but adding the second one allows you to leave the original one as is... and you can boot to either Windows or Linux dependign on your mood...







Drew that is a good lidea. I don' tknow why I didn't think of that. I am hitting staples later to pick up another hard drive. When I get it maybe you can tell me how to save the linux then get it copied and installed on the 2nd hard drive?



While Im there anyone care to suggest a good graphics card? I have a athalon chip if that makes a difference in the choosing of cards.

 

Geforce4, pretty well supported in linux, ati just sucks, I run a geforce, it works, and as I found out today, it runs tribes2 better in linux than in windows, it is all smooth and fast and pretty

 

Thanks I got an ATI last time andthe **** was broken right out of the box. It never worked??

 

GeForce 4 all the way... but whatever you do, don't get a GeForce 4 MX... (GF4 MX = lame marketing ploy by nVidia) I'd go for a 64MB GeForce 4 Ti4200, easier on the wallet than the top of the line but still pretty darn fast

hmm since theres already a linux topic here could some one tell me how to do a dual boot with mandrake8.0 and windows me on a 20 gig H.d. and how do i do it to where my mom cant find out?

 

Use partition boot magic... or learn GRUB

 

heh, grub is so stupid simple, as long as windows is already installed, just install linux to another hd, or another partition if you have one, (if not, then use partition magic to repartition without having to reinstall) then install linux, set grub as the boot manager, and windows as the default boot choice, as long as you don't do anything, it will boot to windows automatically, I used to do that, now it boots to linux automatically, as I am slowly weaning myself off of windows completely, all I have to do is get Samba set up, which I will do, someday, must resist urge to be lazy.
