I have been considering switching to Mandrake-Linux and leaving behind my Xp O/S. I am curious of a few thing sthough as I am not really that familiar with Linux. First off is it easy to mek the transition over to Linux. How user friendly is it? i.e. Is it difficult to get use to? How stable is the system? Is there much support available for it? Also I imagine most if not all of my programs will not work with it. Such as my Adobe stuff, acrobat, photoshop, illustrator. If not then what programs fill in the blanks where these ones will no longer be? Basically I want to know if anyone can give me the skinny on it. Is it worth makeing all the changes and getting away from XP. I really have no complaints with xp I am just looking for something different. Any thoughts anyone?

Mandrake is great to start with. Yes it is very, very stable.

None of you winblows programs will run unless you somehow mange to configure wine properly, but there are almost always programs with similar features available for free download for linux.

There is tons of support, several great support forums on the net, mandrake itself has one.

Mandrake 9.0 rx2 is out right not and I have not noticed any major issues so it is prolly a safe download. It comes with a ton of software, CD burning, gaim you name it.

Hope that helps.

Does it come with an install wizard and do I have to do anything special to set it up???

Yes mandrake probably has the best linux install going, it is step-by-step, just stick the cd in and turn the system on. I will partition your disks and everything.

Mandrake will be near impossible to download today however because 9.0 was just officially released.

Wow suck praise coming out of Redmond! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I think Mandrake is the easiest Linux to migrate to. Can't wait to play with 9.0, I just havnt had the time lately. I run 2000 for my work network and really have no complaint besides for the price.
