Im trying to install it on a pc that has windows already and make it a dual boot but i dont know how to partition it correctly to work right. I've already tried doing it once using the free space on the windows partition but it didnt work when i went to install the packages i had to deselect everything to get it to the proper memory. I have a 30 gig HD and windows is using less than 10gigs. Should i try the custom disk partitioning?

You should get rid of Mandrake because it's a pain the ***, and install debian or red hat, but I perfer debian. Red hat now is so much more like windows than what Linux is suppose to be.

You dumbass.

You need two partitions for linux and one for windows. The two linux partitons are 1) swap partitions which is about 200MB (or whatever size your ram is normally) and 2) the partition where you want the linux OS to go. Your mount point. If your using mandrake (which is the easiest linux to set up ever), it will do it all for you automatically, even with an existing windows partition.

Also, the packages aren't that big, if you installed all of them, it would only be about 3Gig at the most. You probably don't need the server packages, or the gnome package, cos KDE rocks, so your looking at 1Gig all up, even if you do the video and sound editing, c development and games packages.
