[quote name='banzaitoyota' date='Apr 27 2005, 10:33 AM']you need to budget, so that events such as a lost paycheck do not send you into financial ****.

dude i cant budget when i jsut got a good paying job recently. I used to werk at autozone and that **** murdered me financially. My girlfreinds parents have my car and phone under there name so they said pay us back when u can. Now imagine two years almost of not paying ure insurance or phone. So now that i got a good paying job. I pay them as much as i can and just take enuff money for me that can last me the week or two . FOr gas, food while im in college

And i only work 1 or 2 days a week for a few hours checks every two week is like $300 more or less and only when im going to werk this summer making good money bout $1300 every two weeks then i can pay my billz faster.

Yes , im living paycheck to paycheck, before my paycheck was lost i was runninng low on funds my girlfreinds been spotting me for haircuts, cloths, gas, food, etc then the check didnt come the following week or the week afeter.

So when i went to work the next week i called and it was lost so i resend the lost timesheet with the one from april and my check will be coming may 15 so im dead broke till then!

[quote name='Tessai' date='Apr 27 2005, 01:13 PM']Looks like you use Washington Mutual. I just had to cancel my account with them (had it for the past 3 years, since I got my first job in this state since moving) because of similar ****. I had a string of fraudulant charges made, causing a number of overdraft charges. ******* manager at the bank wouldn't even refund overdrafts when they weren't my fault until I threatened to close the account. Then, when I filed the dispute for the 3 charges, he failed to tell me that my debit card would be canceled in the process. Hmm, how nice. I couldn't even deposit my paycheck without giving the bank social security numbers and ID... drove from the branch near work to the branch I filed the dispute from... walked right in, closed the account.

[quote name='Shane.Trammell' date='Apr 27 2005, 02:25 PM']you guys should use a credit union, they are nonprofit so the interest rates are lower for loans and higher for interest bearing accounts

Absolutly, I have been with a credit union for 7 years now, the hell with banks, I would rather stuff my money in a matress or bury it in the yard than put it back in a bank.

Thats the same thing that happened to me. I went in and asked if they could look up the address of the place, since it wasn't listed on the transaction sheet. They tried and said that it wasn't in the system. Dispute time!

Credit Unions aren't for companies. I'm with Community Credit Union, seems to be pretty big. They have both branches in their own buildings, and will have branches inside grocery stores as well... such as Albertson's and Tomb Thumb. You may have to look around to find one near you. I signed up for "Beyond Free Checking" which gives me free checks and they refund ATM fees, it requires $600/mo to be direct deposited, though. Only other requirement is at least $1 stays in the savings account that comes with the checking account, and I'm pretty sure this last term applies to all their checking accounts. All the others may also require direct deposit, but no minimum ammount.

the credit union i work for is a community credit union so anyone who lives here or in the surrounding counties can join. at this credit union you only have to deposit $5 to open an account, and 50 to open a checking wth no minimum balance, but at most others you have to deposit $20 or so.

one of the best things about this one, i dont know about others, is that when you make a deposit it goes into your account, it doesnt matter if its 6pm, it goes in right then, not the next day. another thing is that when you do debit card or other e transactions the transaction goes through all at once. theres not a list of pending transactions that take away from your "available balance" like there was at the banks i used. ive also never been temporarily charged an extra amount, like when you go to a gas station and they run a certain amount to see if the account is going to be good, like i did with banks.
