WARNING: LONG POST, AND IT DOES CONTAIN PISTON TALK!!!!

I love car accidents!!! I flipped my wrangler last night in accokeek on Bryan Point RD. Took a turn to fast, actually underestimated the turn, went into other lane, smacked the brakes. Went up onto a embankement about knee high, smacked the front bumper on a telephone pole, and rolled onto it's side, and it smacked the pavement HARD!!!!!

Luckily though, I am not hurt, except for being really sore. No broken windows in the wrangler, everything was throw around inside. There is a VERY small amount of damage for having the passenger side of the truck weighing 3500 pounds hitting the pavement. Only have to replace both fenders, replace the door(or the door skin), and passenger side mirror. Also have to repair the soft top.

I dropped the F-bomb about 200 times though. Luckily, my folks were still up, they rushed down there with our neighbor and his F-250. Slapped a tow strap to the transfer case skid plate, and pulled it right over. Suspension did not bottom out when coming down either.

Did not call cops, no reason to, and did not call insurance company. Again, no reason to, damage is so minimal, I can repair it myself for about 300 bucks. Just turning a few damn bolts.

Only problem is the bitch won't start. I have NO dashboard lights, or the starter will not go. I am thinking it is a fuel cut off switch, or an ignition or clutch cutoff switch in case of a roll over. All fuses checked out fine, I have full power on the battery, all exterior and interior lights work, AC/heat work.

I will always own a wrangler now. And yes, I was wearing my seatbelt too!!!

And another thing, don't give me **** about having an accident not reported, you don't report it to insurance when you roll it offroading, so what's the difference. I plan on owning it for life anyways.

j9fd3s 03-02-2006 11:13 PM

the fords have a fuel cutoff switch. its around the passenger kick panel, placed where, the passengers can kick it. so they show up on tow trucks...

hows that for a serious answer?

lol. kind of sounds like when people have the **** towed in, with check engine light on, and gas cap was not tightened down. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

I use to love that 60 each one!

teknics 03-03-2006 05:42 AM

the problem with rollover accidents is the things that you cant see as being obviously wrong.

there's probably a lot of things that are now at their breaking point, or already broken, due to that accident.

as for it not starting, jeeps dont have fuel cutoff switchs, cause then if you were offroading your truck would turn off. basically its time for you to look closer, you could have done something as simple as pinch a wire in the harness while flipping and now your truck wont start.

your lucky you didnt die, if i flipped my jeep id rather get rid of it faster then be all "oh im keeping it for life" i never flipped mine but got it on 2 wheels more then once. each time i did i just was like "gotta get rid of this thing soon"

kevin.

kevin.

rfreeman27 03-03-2006 06:24 AM

Yeah, that is the most assbackwords logic i've ever heard!

My jeep rocks because its really easy to flip it, and i drive it too fast! WOOT!

now its broken but its cool cuz im ok....

It could just be a fluke that you are allright. The dude that wrecked the enzo ripped his car in HALF and RAN from the scene after wiping out at ~200 mph. It's all luck...

1988RedT2 03-03-2006 08:24 AM

Yah, dude. I would take this as a wake-up call, not some yee-haw I wrecked my jeep and walked away and I'm invincible ****. You were lucky.

I won't give you any grief about not reporting it. Single car, nobody hurt. They don't need to know. And you are very right not to contact your insurance company.

Sorry I don't have any real suggestions for getting it started. It's probably going to be something big and obvious. Check your battery connections, grounds, starter wiring, etc.

93 R1 03-03-2006 08:46 AM

Your dumber then I thought....

As for the fuel cutoff switch...its just that, a FUEL cutoff switch. Its not a starter cutoff switch or a dashboard light cutoff switch.

One320B 03-03-2006 03:40 PM

Oh man, that sucks... wondered what happened w/ the jeep, lol. You are pretty lucky though. I don't this is a "wake up call" to get rid of the vehicle...maybe just always keep in mind it's a wrangler...and there is a reason why insurance companies rank it so high for rollover.

I've got my jeep on two wheels...around a turn in 2nd gear only doing maybe 20mph or less..(it came up when i shifted...damned torque)... but that was a huge wake-up for me... Jeeps aren't cool for highspeed, or even low speed turns, lol.

Fix the JEEP, keep wheelin'...just be more careful man, geebus...your one of the only other jeep owners that I know of on this forum....don't let me be the only one, lol....

jose13b 03-03-2006 05:52 PM

no pics

rowtareh 03-03-2006 06:15 PM

no pics, cause I am at work.

Reason why I am keeping it because I am alive, not because it is easy to roll over. The steel ******* rollbar is what saved me, and it also saved from having even more damage to the vehicle. As always I had my seat belt, if I did not, I would probably be in the hospital with a broken arm or a concussion. Or both at that matter.

And already spoke to a tech in the shop, he thinks that something did get pinched, or something disconnected in the ignition lock cylinder. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

And I was taking a turn at 30mph, no sign warning that it was a sharp ass turn, and the road has no light at all. **** happens, give me a ******* break.

Rob x-7 03-03-2006 06:39 PM

you cant drive a jeep everyday, they are toys, not transportation

Rob x-7 03-03-2006 06:40 PM

ps- roll it more and then tell the insurance company, the thing will never be right

you're right.

ugh, let me find my transfer cable. i am so ******* sore right now. went to the hospital this morning just to make sure I did not have a bad case of whiplash. i am perfectly fine.

rowtareh 03-03-2006 08:43 PM

you can see the telephone pole i hit.

nopistons94 03-03-2006 08:58 PM

why it look so shitty on the undercarriage for such a new car?

Huh? If you are speaking of the driveshafts, that is surface rust, and that is normal for them. Also does not help I went mudding a few weeks ago in it.

I have seen those ******* steel roll bars mangled from rolls like yours.

My brothers friend did the same thing and her jeep was totalled, the fiberglass hard top was shattered.

main reason I don't have a hard top.

Dave 88 A.E 03-04-2006 01:25 PM

Why? they provide more protection than a soft top.

Then again she rolled her jeep not tipped it over on it's side, big difference.

its amurican, its just bare unpainted steel and iron and such

rowtareh 03-04-2006 04:39 PM

dave- if i happen to roll it or throw it on its side, more parts to replace. soft top just tears, does not break up into pieces. soft top you can repair or replace for ALOT less than the hard top.

Rob x-7 03-04-2006 04:44 PM

I cant see how that thing didnt twist, I would check all the body lines real close, check the firewall as well

I don't know if it makes a difference, but the passenger door opens and closes perfectly fine. I think that has to do with chassis flex. Firewall I have not checked yet, but that is a good idea. I also looked closer, and I have to replace the bracket that holds the passenger side mirror. Also some paint damage on the front fender, it's hard to explain where it is at though. Right where the flash to pass light is at, in the little dip.

NOT true. The hardtops offer no additional protection in an accident vs. the soft top. It even states this on the hard top when you get one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

And yes, JEEP under boddies are prone to looking ugly...happens when 90% of the driving is done offroad, lol.

I have a hardtop and love it since it seals better for heat/cold and is a lot quieter... but it does nothing for protection as it will just shatter as somebody mentioned before...

I do. And so do thousands of others. Wranglers are not the perfect stop/go vehicle...but it is transportation. Bad ass transportation when it gets messy outside! I a huge rotary fan...but I can't drive an rx7 in the snow....

Rob x-7 03-06-2006 06:38 AM

you like punishment then, they are not the most comfortable things to drive

I didnt mean you CANT, I meant it sucks

I agree. I have ridden in a friend's Wrangler, and going over the expansion joints on a decent stretch of concrete interstate got really old, really fast.

There's no doubt that some people actually drive these things on the roads, but they are all masochists.

One320B 03-06-2006 08:15 AM

Oh I agree w/ the punishment thing... but I still do it as it's the most reliable winter vehicle I have. I almost sold it a month after buying it because my back was killing me on a lot of the construction roads around where i live and going into DC doesn't help..their roads suck!

Our found a good seat position though and it's pretty good now...I also like being able to drive onto curbs, medians, etc when jackasses forgot how to drive....

So a flimsy metal frame and a fabric top provides more protection than a fiberglass shell?

I highly doubt that.

89 Rag 03-06-2006 09:43 AM

Back up and hit it again, then light it on fire and dance around the burining chassis.

Ummm, the wrangler chassis is pretty ******* tough. It's not the top itself, but the actual steel rollbar that is welded into the frame of the car.

And I agree with the punishment of the ride, but you don't buy a wrangler to expect the ride of a caddy or a benz. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Dave 88 A.E 03-06-2006 02:45 PM

Yeah i know what a wrangler is like I drove my brothers for over a year. Most of the winter i only had the bikini top on it. The bracing for the soft tops are shitty. I have had the bars break on me before.

I don't know how they are on the Trendy Jeep, but on the Yj my brother had they were bolted not welded.

Oh, please! It's an oxcart. Caddy or Benz? Let's be reasonable.
