While Blazers are a fun truck they generally don't come with actual 4-wheel drive(most trucks that say 4-wheel drive aren't) If your lucky you have limited slip in the rear end, but most car makers just forgot to put it in the front.( 99.9% of SUVs are real slugs at real 4-wheelin')

I spent 20 years in Alaska (7 years living in the Arctic),so I was kind of into 4-wheel drives. The first truck to have limited slip in the front and rear was the Internationa Scout. When I lived in the arctic I had a '72 scout that was jacked up about a foot and had Gimbo Monster Mudder tires. You couldn't drive across the tundra so you had to go up stream, river beds(thus the need to jack the trucks into the air) Most independent front end 4-wheel drives won't take the abuse of real 4-wheeling for very long.(the one exception is the Hummer, but you pay for what you get!)Thats were the good old Blazer, Scouts ,older Jeeps, Dodge power wagons come in as they all had straight front axles(they take a lot more abuse in stock form.)

Did you know that GM made a Blazer that was a camper? They made it in the '70s for I believe one year(very limited production.) They were really nice looking, but a little heavy for serious 4-wheelin'.

Since I'm into rotary cars now, my 4-wheeling has kind of taken a back seat, but I do have a '64 scout(thats been in my family since it was new), with front and rear limited slip(4:27 gears& 9 miles to the gallon!), 5 liter Ford V-8, Ford 4-speed with Hurst shifter, rearched springs,add-a-leafs all the way around and large chrome wheels n' tires.

 

full exaust and carb/manifold, hmmmm, maybe 20 or so horsepower.

What year is that truck again? any emissions on it?

You dont need HP for towing a car.

it's an 86 it has emissions equipment on it. i know you don't need HP you need TQ but generall you get more torque with hp

 

you didnt pay $350 for a 20+ year old edelbrock manifold and a 600 Holley

If you remove all the emissions it will run alot better, add the crap you have

and it will run even better then that, probably pick up 2-3 MPG as well. 1986 was

a bad year for that motor, it probably had about 140hp when it was brand new.

 

i paid $300 for the holley, edelbrock manifold, and hedman headers



yeah i looked it up it has 160hp and 210 tq. the carb in it works but when its cold i need to rev it a bit so it won't stall out..... just wondering if its worth it to install those parts if i will see a $300 difference, besides in my wallet

 

give it a tune up, remove the emissions crap, put the headers

and the rest of your stuff on, if anything the truck will run 100% better.

Take a MSD box off your 7 that doesnt go anywhere and put it on the blazer

as well, lol

 

I dont know what you are expecting for $300 anyhow, lol

 

Almost forgot, have fun driving a holley in the cold :rant:

 

if the motor goes..you can pick up new GM crate motors around 2 grand...no intake manifold





all in all though...keep it forever..K5 blazers kick ***

 

I hate electric choke holleys, I always opt for the manual choke
