You know those pool tables that you play on where you put in 4 quarters (that's a dollar) and it drops you the set of *****....but as you sink them in, they go back in "Storage"...yet...if you scratch the white ball...it somehow knows it and puts it back to a spot where you can grab it again and again...
...well...how does it know it? I mean...the white ball is falling into a spot where every other numbered ball falls...yet somehow the table KNOWS to not sort that in the containment section thingy and send it back to the other spot...

i can't tell if you're just being a smartass or not, but here's the answer anyway:
the cueball doesn't weigh the same as the numbered *****. I can't remember if it weighs more or less though, but I'm betting on more. when you sink the *****, they are guided back to the 'window' by a set of rails. somewhere along the way, there is a weight-specific mechanism that is only tripped by a certain weight (any ***** weighing more/less than the play/numbered *****). not all cueballs weigh the same though, they all just weigh more/less than the numbered/play *****.

Yea, Me and my friend just shrugged and assumed it could be the weight, even perhaps the size, but it seemed to be the same.
I'm still voting for the Pool Table Gnomes on this one.

It actually has nothing to do with weight. At least not with modern pool tables which contain a small optic sensor. Becuase the cue ball is completely white it reads this and activates a solenoid which diverts the ball away from the other *****.

In older tables (mine's an antique), there is an arm that "sends" the cueball to the breaking end of the table due to its different size.
It would be helpful to mention that mine is also a restored pool-hall table, complete with slots for quarters and a counter that reads the number of games played on the table...over a million
