Honda h22a prelude motor in 88 rx-7?

im not saying domestic motors are utter crap or anything like that but they break so much easier and if you did put 1200 to say 2500 into a four banger civic or a rx-7 it would pretty much be a lot faster than a lot of cars except things like a S2000 ,corvette,etc, the ones that cost over 30,000 thousand. it would be nice to swap the motor like a 302 like you said,it would be quick as hell ,crappy gas milage,and that sometimes horrible rumble from the homemade dual exhaust but you still cant tell me you can beat on it like a honda,just to me my opinion is and old fashioned pushrod v-8 is utter crap,something my grandpa would drive,**** four bangers are coming closer and closer to top fuel dragster times and it has 4 less cylinders than the old v-8s,i love the sound a v-8 makes,when its done the right way, nothing can compare to it, they just break so damn easy when ya push em ,doesnt seem worth it to me or my buddy,seen tons of em break at dragstrips and my all my buddies have had more problems than say my cousins 88 honda accord with all original parts that has almost 300,000 miles on it. anyone wanna keep reading this long reply?lol remember this is just my opinion about domestic motors.piece the s2000 motor goes into the rx7!!!!!!!mu hahahahahahahahaha,9000 rpm redline,utter power,lol someday!!!!!!!

1990 Cadillac

350 GM corporate engine <chevy>

4 speed auto and towing package

Towed my Rx7, BMW, Celica, and VW's to races and when they broke down

225,000 miles on original engine

still has perfect compression

and is driven hard daily.



just my .02



on the con. I think a heavy Iron block V8 in a car designed for a light rotary will distroy the handling, but the torque would be nice.

umm ya, a chev 350 is probably the longest lasting engine out there... 2nd would be a toyota 22r(e) 2.4L

why is it they have always taken a **** when ever ive seen them try to do something?doesnt matter what it is a mod or a fix, just my .02 cents too

No offense to anybody but there are way cheaper swaps than a honda. Plus, a honda motor is crap, sorry. I work at a Honda Dealership and to tell you the truth the S2000 aint ****. The TII motor can easily smoke that with an intake and full exhaust. If you want to spend A LOT of money to make that honDUH motor fast go ahead. But my buddy invested 85k into his Prelude and it runs high 11's low 12's. There is nothing more he can possibly do to the motor. While yes HonDUHS don't break often STOCK, if you really want a fast honDUH motor it will be just as bad as that "Push rod crap" as you say.

Plus there is like 5 things you can do to a rotary:

1) Intake

2) Exhaust

3) Port

4) Fuel system

5) Turbo

before i saw the light i was a honda nut too.

i had an 88 prelude. nobody offers aftermarket parts for the b20 a block. so i researched alot of things about honda engines. first off honda engines aren't crap 250K on my prelude and the timing belt broke only b/c i forgot when it was replaced last. VTC and VTEC make those little 4 banger scream. and with all teh stuff you can do to make power: cylinder heads, intakes, exhaust, valve jobs, high compression pistons, bore & stroke, ductile iron sleeving, the list goes on and on honda engines handle boost and nitrous well too.

the coolest swap (the one i wanted to do) was a b20c (crv block, 2 liters) with a b16c head (civic vtec head). supposed to push 200hp N/A at stock compression and internals.

now don't get me wrong, i'm planning my rotary build right this minute but i still have respect for the well built honda's out there. do what you want if you want to go nuts put in an nsx power plant or the 800hp TT viper engine. the only limit to your dreams is you wallet.
