I'll be returning the Monoprice switch, trying to research to find one that will work. I don't want to do trial-and-error. Luckily Monoprice has good customer service; normally they make the customer pay return shipping, but they'll foot the bill, because this issue isn't clear or well-known.

Got the last jack installed. I was an idiot and let the wire fall back into the wall, after I had nailed the baseboard back down. I had to remove it all again, fish it back through again, and finished it up.

The wire mold around the door frame doesn't look super great, but it's much better than having wire stapled down.

Tonight I'll be mounting the 4 surround speakers and wiring them to the jacks, and cleaning up more wires behind the shelf unit.

Next up: installing a black power outlet behind the wall-mounted TV. That shouldn't take long, just need to remove the outlet from its box below the TV, and run the fish tape from there to a new hole directly above it behind the TV for the new length of wire. Wire the new outlet to the old outlet, and done.

Thinking about tucking the HDMI cable through the wall as well, for a completely clean look, no wires from the TV. Someone told me about the type of box he uses, essentially you just shove whatever wires you want through it. I think I'll do this for the HDMI cable; one box behind the TV, another at normal-power-outlet level behind the receiver.

Sort of like this, but single gang:

Hopefully I can finish the new power outlet and the HDMI cable tonight.

Thanks!

A comment I got on another website:

Why did you mount panels for the speaker cable? When my dad and I did his we just pulled the cables directly to the speaker: we drilled at an angle so that they would come out under the speaker but such that we could still mount the speaker on the stud. Also, instead of installing a new outlet we just pulled the TV's power cable through the middle of the mount down to ground level along with every other cable we could possibly want.
my reply:

I don't like just having a wire coming out of a hole in the wall. It's sloppy, in my opinion, even if nobody can see it. When I add something like this, I consider it a permanent fixture to the house, and I want it to look that way.

The power cable is not meant to be behind a wall. I'm not sure what you did with it once you pulled it down to ground level though, you'd still be left with a cord coming out of the wall and going up into the outlet. In my opinion, that would be sloppy too (in addition to being unsafe, against code, etc.). Of course, my power outlets are very visible, I don't have one directly behind my shelf thingy.

Additionally, I've been thinking about adding a backlight to my TV. It would easily plug into the new outlet. Not sure yet if I'm going to do that, though.
I'm still not sure about the backlight thing.

There's speaker cable meant for going inside walls too. Since they are a potential high voltage and current source they have code rules too. It's usually pretty clearly labelled as CL3. You can get it at Best Buy (Monster Cable) or at Home Depot.

I got rid of my satellite dish and have an antenna in the attic now. While the picture is noticeably better the lack of channels here in Canada is pretty bad. I'm right in the middle of southern ontario and can only pick up 7 channels. Well 8 actually, but no way am I watching church tv.

I bought one of these as well;

Never thought I needed a universal remote, since my receiver remote was programmable as well. Unfortunately my receiver remote has a known bug that causes all the buttons to be randomly re-assigned. The Logitech might just be my favourite component based on cost vs satisfaction, despite paying $165 for a remote!
