Hey 88redT2, I still gotta go check out the truck and drive it around a bit, should I watch out for anything in particular?
RUST! Check the frame and the lower rear corners of the cab, also the bed. Other than that, just the usual stuff. Starts easily, idles smooth, doesnt' smoke, drives good, etc. etc.

Do trucks rust in California? Or have the laws of Chemistry been re-written there?

Not much rust in Cali trucks unless it has been deserted or neglected for years.. If it is a daily driver it will have no prob.. Maybe just slight surface rust here and there.. or rust from rain water.. But that usually just on unused trucks.. Like my REPU..

How the hell do I tell if it Really is a 454...?
Try this:

Of course, there's a good chance it's not the original engine. There should be a number stamped in the block somewhere. I don't know where. Maybe a Haynes manual? Try to take somebody who knows Chevys with you when you go to check it out. The big block looks quite a bit bigger than a 350.
