Ya bastard!! Don't jinx me..
Yeah im the same situation as dave. It has been a very wet month. Hell, it's been a very wet summer for us. I live in the woods, so theres lots of huge trees next to my house.

Humm im not worried about the wind, house is all brick so i think it will hold up. But it will not hold up if a tree falls on it.

Our driveway runs downhill to the garage, so we made a lip out of asphalt, hopefully it will divert the water around the garage. If it does not work it will flood. That would suck...

lol, get a chain saw and cut down all the tree's that are tall enough to fall on your house... What JerkRacer is talking about is that people should build their home in a way that can endure the weather that occurs in the area they are built. Ie. Don’t buy or live in a trailer house where your going to have Hurricanes, don't build your home in a place that floods and if you do build it so it won't flood etc.

Ever read that story about the 3 Little Pigs? Build homes out of concrete and you'll never have to worry. Anything else and Mother Nature will eventually bitch slap you. Wind? Fallen trees? Flying cows? No worries. Just keep some food and water on hand and you'll be good. It makes no sense to live in a home that's next to disposible when it comes to bad weather. Your home should be the place you run to when the weather gets deadly, not run from. Flooding? I doubt it's the first time in the history of that area that it has been a problem. Don't want to deal with flooding? Move to higher ground. Yeah, it is that simple. It is if you really are concerned. Big ol' trees? As Dragon said, get a chainsaw and take them down before the trees take you out. To hell with Green Peace and the Sierra Club. It's you or them and it's a fight to the end. Bust out the chainsaw and save yourself some worries.

Wild fires, earthquakes, and politics will take Cali out. They got smart out there and started making buildings that can handle big ol' quakes finally. I was at Camp Pendelton back in 01/94. I was trying to sleep off a night over indulgence when I thought somebody was messing with me by shaking my bunk violently. I got all pissed and woke up rather angry ready to take issue with the jack-***. Lo and behold there wasn't anybody there. It was that Northridge earthquake. Now that was a quake to show how crappy some of the buildings were as well as the expressways. Sad that people perished in that. But at least some good came out of it by forcing engineers to build better structures to prevent some of the same issues next time.

Here in Seattle we get icky weather. That's all. Not really bad weather. Just a whole lot of light rain. Maybe a little bit breezy sometimes. I've never been anywhere where the weather was so calm all the time. Even the occasional storm isn't much to talk about. But we do have a volcano that's overdue. Mt. Rainier to be exact. When that thing pops it'll make Mt. St. Helen look like a Black Cat firecracker. It's the pyroclastic and mud flows that'll do the real killing. Within 50 miles of the mountain there are many urbanized areas. Around there people do drills running to high ground in a certain amount of time (depends on location). But when it happens, it's going to be big news.

I guess everywhere you live, Mother Nature will have a good chance of punkin' you out. It's just how you're prepared for it when it happens.

yeah, we've had thunderstorms that cause way more damage than any hurricane I've seen in the 13 years I've been here

I still need to gather up the deck funiture and bring it in the garage and try to squeeze another car in too(not sure which one, the 1970 MGB or the 1 month old Explorer ). I'm lucky I don't have the big trees around the house that could crash into it, but I'm worried like rfreeman about water running down my driveway into the garage. We already have a lip at the top the size of a speed bump, but with 8" of rain, I'm not sure if it will hold up. I'm going to try and caulk around the front of the house to keep the water from getting in. I may try to dig a small drainage ditch tonight around the side of the garage to help.

Looks like my father-in-law will get hit real hard out near Hancock MD. Crap, his basement gets water from a thunderstorm and they say he will get 12" or rain!

Good luck everyone!
