My grandparents had a Saint when I was little. We lived right next door, so he was always around. He used to pull all 3 of us kids on the toboggan. They're truly great dogs, he was very protective of us kids.

My family has had lots of dogs. We've had terrible luck with them, but could never imagine not having 1 or 2 around.

Today is one of those days when I wonder if it is really worth having pets. You get attached to them and then it tears you up when you have to let them go.

Last night we had to take my parents St Bernard to be put down. Clemson was a cool dog that was just like a big bear, all 180lbs worth. He ended up having his stomach flip and became bloated at some point over the past 2-3 days and he was in pain. Vet said they could do surgery, but couldn't guarantee if he would make it. On top of that his hips have been bad for the past couple of years. I know what we did was the right thing to do, but it still sucks. I feel even worse for my dad, it was his "buddy" when he worked outside.

I'm just waiting to get out of this f-ing place and go for a blast down some nice back roads on the way home from work.

Are pets really worth it?
we had to do the same thing about 2 years ago, similar dog too. 130lbs. the house is still not the same.

we actually got more cards and letters about the dog than grampa
