For any of you guys that read "Guns Magazine" check out page 6, an aritcle called "Dateline Iraq". Its written by one of my guys and pokes fun at all the arm-chair soldiers there seem to be these days.

1988RedT2 07-20-2005 01:02 PM

Well, I don't read that mag, but I'll sound off in support of guns. Use 'em or lose 'em and all that.

defprun 07-20-2005 01:07 PM

Here's what i think of guns:

Carry a gun, shoot skeet.

Carry a gun, hunt animals (for sport for food, whatever)

Carry a gun that isnt for those reasons it should be banned. Anything that is absolute overkill for what you are using it for should not be allowed. Any type of high-powered automatic or subautomatic rifle should be banned. Theres no reason for them and they are not designed for the above reasons. They are WAR weapons. They should not be in our homes. Anyone who carries a WAR weapon should be fighting a war or training for said war and not firing off rounds in his backyard while sitting in his wave pool drinking a budweiser.

Keep the peaceful world peaceful.

I agree for the most part. I guess the only excuse for those who want those WAR guns is simply out of the gun hobby itself. It's not all meant to be used, but rather, just pride of ownership, for show, etc. Does it make sense in that regard?

Anyone remember that one episode of Simpsons (Except Banzai) when homer buys a gun..;

"And what is this Gun for?"

Homer: "Uhhh"

"Sport, Game, Hunt, Practice, or....Other"

Homer: "Other"

defprun 07-20-2005 01:40 PM

Yeah 'other' doesnt really justify there being assault rifles on the street, no matter their classification for me. If they dont have to be there, why sell them?

The only reason it would have any bearing with an american or otherwise would be because of a patriotic need or want for these weapons or simply because they are "allowed" by the constitution.

I say suck it up and make the streets just a little safer. Being more strict on gun laws. And definately all you guys need is a more efficient way of bringing guns to the people. All it really is, is: Factory, gunstore, person. All you need is a forth semi-strict control law. A license perhaps. One that would truly train someone in gun control, and weed out those who might use it for another purpose. Make it so not just any schmoe off the street can buy a gun. Background checks have to be a must.

And again, eliminating higher powered weapons that may not just be used for "keeping your home safe".

Its not a solution to the problem, nothing ever is. It is just training people to know that guns are not a toy and it takes a responsible individual to use one.

PhoenixDownVII 07-20-2005 02:14 PM

True true. BUT, most guns used by crooks are stolen in the first place (who cares what you need to do to get it legally!) and are normal handguns, not super assault mega rifle machine gun T1000's.

It is a tough thing to regulate or fight, either way you slice it. Seems like changing people's attitudes toward things, and preventing people from becoming capable of doing such things mentally, is the more effective way to go. I mean, everyone's born innocent of such things right? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png

nopistons94 07-20-2005 02:22 PM

Am I gonna go out and kill every person that flips me off or cuts me off in traffic. **** no. Am I menace to society because I own multiple assault rifles? **** no. Will i hesitate to double-tap some ******* that threatens my family? **** no. I personally enjoy guns. Exactly, why punish the masses with a bullshit law?

yayer 07-20-2005 02:54 PM

I own a tactical shotgun, it's my first gun. I don't hunt or shoot skeet. It's not good for that (Barrel length: 18"). It's for Law Enforcement. I just have it for the reason sweet7 gave "its better to have a gun and not need it, than it is to need a gun and not have one."

But also, I just think it's kewl https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png. I've had a fascination with firearms since I was a kid and learned about how they work and their relevance.

"The Masses" think they need assault rifles?

I think it's asinine that people have to be afraid of having a gun waved in their face when they go out to a nightclub. Do you take your assault rifle with you?

And we have that problem here without allowing any moron to buy one at Wal-Mart.

Outside of the military, 99% of people I know have assault rifles because they are gun enthusiasts. Is there something wrong with that? People have hobbies. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

After this post im pretty glad canadians dont influence American gun laws....

inanimate_object 07-20-2005 03:25 PM

We don't have a gun problem in Ireland because the only people with guns use them for hunting, and because getting a licence involves background tests etc. The people who enjoy guns still get to enjoy them, but must be deemed suitable to own one. Even at that if you want something powerful, you have to work your way up with less powerful guns. This might seem a bit strict, but IMO there's no other way to treat ownership of a device whose sole purpose is to take life.

I'm not anti-guns, but I do feel that over there it's way to easy to get your hands on one - with the consequence that they're an everyday household item.

Mark

Believe me, we're happy we don't have your crime rates, and that we don't feel the need to barricade ourselves in our homes at night. What a funny coincidence.

PS: I own guns and have used them all my life. Why you people insist on allowing ANYONE to get them is beyond my imagination.

nismo convert 07-20-2005 03:32 PM

how many times to you have to kill a deer before it hits the ground? and how many holes per second do you need to put in a can?

Rx7Widow 07-20-2005 03:35 PM

I've had guns around me my whole life. Both of my grandpas were and still are members of the NRA. Sadly, the majority of my family cannot own guns, that whole felon thing you know, but the ones that do have them for good reasons.

And then there are the rednecks who just like to have guns. Think there is a war on their front porch or something.

sweet7 07-20-2005 03:43 PM

I agree that the whole owning 12 million weapons for home defense is asinine. As someone who spends a very fair amount of practicing room clearing drills and CQB, then putting it to the test in Iraq and Afghanistan I can tell you, when 12 Super Elite Ninja Commandos with Mp5s fast rope from a Hind through the skylight of you're living room, no amount of guns can save you're paranoid ass. Thats actually what my buddies article in "Guns" is about. But on the other hand, although Im single and have no kids, someday I will. And when I do, rest assured, anyone that threatens them is gonna answer to .45 ACP hollow-point.

As far as assult rifles go, they are my bread and butter. I have one one of them strapped to my body for 18+hours a day. I own them because I enjoy shooting for sport and for nothing more than nostalgia reasons. Other than for shits and giggles, sure an assault rifle is useless. That dosent mean you shouldnt be able to own them.....

TYSON 07-20-2005 03:53 PM

ONE person who intends to kill you in order to rob you can easily do it.

Unless you sit in front of the TV fondling a gun at all times, in which case you are one of the people who should not have ANY weapons, be they machine gun or sharp pointed stick. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Baldy 07-20-2005 03:54 PM

I can get a car and go kill a bunch of people, quicker than I can obtain a gun and do the same. And I could probably kill more people in a car before reloading, than I could with a gun. Not that I would, but that might put things in a different perspective.

What other use for the assault rifle?

sweet7 07-20-2005 04:02 PM

AR-15 style platform (assult rifle) is widely used in shooting competitions and varmint hunting. Just one example.

TYSON 07-20-2005 04:07 PM

I know, but I prefer bolt action.

For a few competitions the heavy barrel AR-15s are ideal, but 99% of people that are offended because they can't own an assault rifle have no idea what those competitions might be.

94touring 07-20-2005 04:11 PM

I always enjoyed having guns to shoot the stray dogs that came into my parents yard. If the neighbor can't keep it locked up then its death by a 357.

sweet7 07-20-2005 04:14 PM

Well see the thing is. People have this hard-on for getting rid of Assault-rifles, but look at the statistics. Pistols and shotguns kill way more people than assault rifles. If i was gonna whack someone you can rest assured it would be with .308 at 800meters. Not at 15ft with an AR or AK.

Ok, im not to up on the most of the tactical shotguns. We use the Benelli M1 and thats about it. I said M4 collapsible butt because in the military, the M4 is basically an m16, just with a shorter barrel and collapsible butt-stock.

defprun 07-20-2005 04:34 PM

fine your all retarded. i post that you need to instill some sort of training for retarded people and make it harder for people to get guns, thus harder to steal the guns in the first place.

Make it so its not common at all to see guns around, makes it hard for gun crimes to occor.

Than i get some stupid ******* post stating that my post is dribble and that its the people who commit gun crimes with guns are at fault and not the guns.

And i dont give a **** if you have a billion assault rifles, knock yourself out your not a ******* retard BECAUSE you hadnt unleashed a clip off in town square.

But its happend.

Holy ****.

yayer 07-20-2005 04:37 PM

Yeah you were right about the stock. I meant you were close on the model. The chamber capacity of the SPAS-12 is 2 3/4" as opposed to the 3" capacity of my FN TPS. Also, the barrel on my shotty is about 3.5" shorter than the SPAS12.

I'm just ******* with you defprun. And i totally see you're point. But, I dunno how it is in Canada but in America, the vast majority of crimes are committed with stolen or unregistered weapons anyways. An extremely stringent law would only hinder law-abiding citizens, not criminals.

Yayer, thats a very nice capacity indeed. What did it cost you?

defprun 07-20-2005 04:48 PM

We buy our guns at wal mart when we wanna rob the 7-11 bitch.

Cheesy 07-20-2005 04:48 PM

In New Zealand you have to go through background checks as well, semi auto weapons are limited to a 7 rnd mag capacity and no pistol grip or flash suppresor etc ie arent allowed to look like a military weapon. Pistols need a special licence and cant be carried around.
