and the winnAr is *drumroll*.........

timing belt.

To be exact the idler pulley between the two cams lost its plastic face (split in two) the resulting lack of tension and shrapnel shredded the belt.

Sold her the tensioner, tensioner pulley, two idler pulleys, belt, wires, v/c gasket, plugs, and air filter. nice amount of labor, woo.

it was deceiving cause i thought it was just an ignition problem and it had no spark happening at all so i almost said distributor, then i popped open the timing belt cover due to the mileage and sure enough.

as for paying someone my diagnostic time...i had to push the car inside its wayyyy too cold out so i think it makes up for it lol .

also did some struts and stuff nothing else fun. and the only thing there is a honda odyssey with a check engine light, but i know the problem already (god damn egr's on those things)

thank you and we'll see you next time .

I take it that motor doesn't eat it's valves when the belt goes then?

yea i was hoping it was an interference motor, but alas.

However speaking of which last week a lady came in with a vw jetta that shredded the belt and popped the valves "i kept cranking it and it wouldnt start", tried to blame it on an oil change one of the kids did, lol. The tow truck guy said he thought it was just the alternator.

I got in the car, crank it and just hear a high pitched, whizzing/whine and started laughing, got out the car and walked inside and found my mgr and was like "it needs a full top end"...she had an aftermarket warranty tho, we dont **** with that BS.
