I'm going to go ahead and say your PS2's fucked...I had to borrow a friend's newer PS2 to play it and it fires right up, skips the whole start up options screen even.

 

My ps2 can't be fucked cause I put in DDR, then I put in Guilty Gear X, then I put in a CD-ROM based PS2 game. All works fine, so there is something else going on. I am not gonna buy a new PS2 just to play Gran Turismo 4, **** on that.

PS2s will read some things better than others. In fact, when you do the "fix" by spinning around the white wheel until it reads, you make sure it works with all of the different types of cds. Some games are DVD-ROM, others are CD-ROM, and then there's regular DVD and CD. The PS2 may, for example, read the DVD-ROM but not the CD or any other sort of combination. It has to do with the laser strength I believe.

If you are looking for a wheel go on ebay and buy one of the logitechs for the ps2 wiht pedels and wheel. I did and it works great. Make sure that you set up the wheel on simulation mode or the response is horrible. My brother and I made a wooden stand and pedal lip for my setup. So just take that fancy metal one and replace it with wood and there you go. Cheaper is sometimes better.

 

In other words they made the game as realistic as possible.

 

Yeah, cuz a super big luxury boat with a Hemi, would smoke my lithe nimble modded RX-7 on the straightaways, when I'm in my powerband and my car is built for higher end :P Is it just me or did all the tracks get smaller? Maybe that's to be a better judge of speed? must just be me...
