I remember all the I want to be an astronaut, firefighter, policeman, etc.. when I was a kid. Now everyone wants to be a musician, athlete, lawyer, doctor, etc.. how cool is it to want to be a lawyer? I mean these kids are 10 years old and already know that lawyers make bank so they are already looking for monetary values in a job, nothing exciting like we used to, that is pathetic. Not that a lawyer is a bad goal in life, but for a kid to think about how much a job gets paid, that sucks ***. An athlete is a given for most kids, I know I wanted to be one, but it is fun if you make it or not, so no harm in trying.

you might want to read some noam chomsky, he has interesting theories on spectator sports, and other things the institutions are responsible for making society preoccupied with. Mainly to keep the general public from being interested in the things which really matter and effect our lives, among many other things. Theres a book I read some of recently called understanding power which is a collection of noam chomsky articles/interviews etc... it's pretty interesting, though he's kindof crazy

**** sports, bunch of over paid baby's that make more money then anyone else on the planet for nothing and still manage to find the time to bitch.
While we sit around and bitch about how much doctors charge for saving our lives, but never once mention the fact that some douche bag makes 12 million a year swinging a stick at a round ball and running in circles with a piece of leather strapped to his hand.
What professional sports once had, it no longer does. The "sport" has been taken completely out of it and replaced with "big business".
