I've been considering going DSL instead of cable, and getting a dish.. it's not like the TV reception is any good anyway with cable, and my ******' bill is like $60+ for basic cable (10 channels in english, 5 in spanish and 10 shopping channels) and cable modem. Maybe since you're doing it, I'll do it too! Wewt! Do I need a home phone for that?

dsl is the way to go. have had it now for a year and love it. there always seemed to be problems with cable and it seems just as fast. i can play all my multiplayer games (bf2, couterstrike) with ease, and my ping always stays nice and low.. no lag..

plus it's like 55 bucks a month here which includes your phone line as well

dish is also much better than cable. digital signal, much cheaper monthly and you get a bzillion channels with all the music stations (sirius).. this i think it about 40 a month. oh, and free equipment for 3-4 rooms.

in two years i have had the dish, it's never gone out even with a foot of snow on the roof. the worst that ever happened was with a huge t-storm, the picture scrambled for a couple seconds and returned to normal.

i don't know why people think satellite is prone to losing signal. maybe those old big ones did, but these new tiny dishes are awesome.

I've thought about going with the Dish, but I'm still on Comcast cable. The service has been very reliable, but I'm paying almost $100/month for the Digital Plus package plus cable internet. The bill will go even higher next year when the promo rate runs out on the 'net access.

Unfortunately, I'm so far out in the sticks that DSL is unavailable in this area. They're building houses out here like mad though, so maybe that will change soon.

my parents don't have the option of cable/dsl where they live, so they put the dish in. once i saw the picture quality, i switched from comcast to the dish myself. then threw in dsl.

so for dsl, dish and phone line.. it's about 90 a month.

I just checked the bundle packages, 12 months at $86.79 for 225 channel DirecTV, home phone, 1.5MB/s DSL.. then after a year it's ~$106 because the DSL service goes up by $20/mo. I'm thinking this is a good idea. Basically, I would get a home phone plus all of everything I get now for $20 more, and I get ten times as many channels on the TV, so I don't have to watch American Chopper reruns when there's nothing else on.

You all have shitty cable, you could never give me DSL.

my internet is MUCH faster then DSL, its cheaper too

my television reception is awesome, especially the HD signals, and it never goes out.

DSL is so much more money that now they have come out with cheaper DSL, but when you read the fine print its for slower service, meanwhile Cablevision is about to release a even FASTER cable connection for those hosting websites, etc..

in the years and years since I had cable it has NEVER been down, I think Cablevision is rated #1 in the country, everyone I know has gotten rid of thier dishes and went back to cable, the dish just doesnt work well in our area, maybe because we are so close to sealevel, I dont know.

well in our area, maybe because we are so close to sealevel, I dont know.

we about as sea level as you can get in delaware.. up the road, the airport elevation is 8ft msl.

how close you are to being sea level has nothing to do with your signal. obstructions such as hills or mountains might make some sort of difference, but when they mount a dish on your house, they have some sort of device that checks for the strongest signal so you never have any problems.

cable is supposed to be much faster/clearer and more reliable than dsl, but from past experience the picture quality doesn't even compare to the picture quality of a satellite.... unless you have digital cable which costs an arm and a leg and even then isn't any better than satellite.. it's about even at that point, and a lot more money..

everyone i know with cable internet always has problems.. whether its the modem, the service, all that stupid crap. with dsl, the most i have to worry about is restarting the router once a month. i mean even if cable is "supposed" to be that much faster, many people don't have machines fast enough to notice the difference. i have a killer comp., and won't even consider cable internet after all the problems i've had in the past.

Not here, 6mps DSL with phone line is $5.00 per month cheaper then cable, cable was 1.1 mps when it worked, constant outages for hours at a time for a slower more expensive. In washington it was cheaper for cable and the service was decent, DSL has always been more reliable, it just cost a bunch more. Not to mention the new services that will be available through the phone line in the near future.

My cable goes out a min of once a week, i have to reset the modem weekly, service is down during hurricanes and they give no refund. DSL people can use their **** during storms.

My dad ordered the service that is the same speed as cable and it's $15 cheaper WITH the phone line and taxes.

PS, i am about 3 feet above see level.... like the rest of florida
