My wife recently got a speeding ticket, and now has requested a radar detector for christmas. What do you recommend? I've seen so many adds, I don't know what brands and features are good. I was also thinking of getting one for myself, so I'm not looking to get something too pricey (read: I'm cheap, poor).

my beltronics 936 for 120 was good enough.... you can always get the higher end ones for a little bit more.. but its worth it. If i had the extra money, i would get the one with upgradeable software, wher eyou can update your radar when police start using digital spread spectrum radars.

my brother in law got a escort 8500 for 300bucks.. very good radar. but pretty expensive.i have also heard about valentine1's are very good detectors but pretty pricey.

i would check this place out http://www.radartest.com/

good luck choosing the radar.
