Gotta say, I think there's some clouding around the issue of whether American cars are good now, or at least better. The thing is, there's two types of American car manufacturers: Ford, and everyone else. Chrysler and GM make cars like the Sebring, Jeep Liberty, and other crap. What is good that they have to offer? A CTS or a Corvette maybe, but those are only worth buying if you're an American. Corvettes cost more than Porsche 911s in Europe for god sakes.

Then there's Ford, who makes the Mondeo, Focus, Sportka, etc. Some of the best selling cars with a decent price to them and good fit and finish. There's talk of taking those cars over here and making them Mercuries. That's a worthwhile business strategy. I'd buy European quality Fords if they were available, as would many folks. Meanwhile GM and Chrysler have been trying to cram Jeeps and trucks down Europe's throat for so long that now they have no backup plan. All their money comes from a crashing market. I have a feeling Ford will be able to recover. The other two, doubt it. Maybe if the Volt isn't a piece of crap. We'll see...

GM doesnt push the G8 hard enough or at all...it makes a guest appearance in ONE commercial...and this is a VERY good car. They dont even mention it!! But it seems to sell well in other countries...

The difference is, some companies compensate for that by building higher quality cars. GM and Chrysler ship the same old crap we get here to them and just hike the price.

just because someone does not build a light 2 seater sports car does not mean they dont build great cars.

The Taurus was a great car, it had styling that had not been seen before and sold great, best in the world actually.

The Escort from the 80's, no it was not a sports car but it sold great, rental companies gobbled them up and it was a car people could afford. Optioned the way you want it, no ac,pw, or pl? no problem- or you could get one dressed up with alot of options.

The Crown Vics are great cars- they fill law enforcement, taxis, and cater to old farts. Its a solid car that people feel safe in.

The F-series truck- best selling vehicle in the world.

The Probe was a good idea- what made the probe any less of a car then the Civic? The original civic that is.

Lets not compare the great cars from Ford made 20 years ago to cars made today.

Now whats the best selling vehicle- a camry. Is the camry such a great car?

Ford makes great cars for everyday people now, but those people are buying foreign cars because they think they are that much better- but they aint.

my dad had a probe GT for like 10 years, it was a flawless car for him. It was the last generation Probe they sold.
