I've seen 2 mazda navajo's, that look exactly like the early explorers...what was up with this SUV? Seemed odd to me. I mean, did sales flop? I've never heard of this thing, besides the 2 that I've seen on the road (which may have been the same vehicle).

from the early 70's to 84 the mada pickup was also sold as the ford courier.
the 86-93* pickup was mazda only as ford had their own ranger
94-current, the mazda pickup is a rebadged ford ranger
from 90-94 mazda sold a 2 door explorer as the navajo, if you see one please burn it, the 90-94 explorer is a truely awful car. whoever designed it and approved the design should be stoned.

vw also owns bentley. and most vw and porsche parts are interchangeable. also i thought i read something about mazda not making the rx-7 anymore, could it be because it would harm the mustangs sales so ford said no to it?

we heard that when they were tooling up to make the 2000mpv's (designed and assembled by mazda with the duratech pos v6), that when the made in america engines showed up they refused to put them into the cars. they had to remove the usa markings before the japanese would put that engine in their minivan.

Pepsi is actually far larger than Coke, as they own several restaurant chains and snack food heavyweights.
General Motors is larger than Ford. I don't think Ford builds many tanks or locomotives. Their Ford Credit department keeps them close in overall revenue.

If the group operates like the international I work for all divisions are required to be profitable in their own right, but a strong performer may be used to assist a weaker link, by way of an internal loan. The money generated by a division still remains at the divisions disposal and the loan must be repaid.
Asset stripping is sometimes a risk with cowboy management, but Ford do not have enough of Mazda to be able to do that, even if they wanted to.
Interesting comments re China
China is seen as the 'holy grail' (thru sheer population numbers if nothing else). We have a startup manufacturing facility in China, still in it's first year. Has been interesting work!
