They are figured in 1/16. ie a -4 hose is 4/16 = 1/4" hose, -8 = 1/2", -12 = 3/4"

Not very good at spelling either.

7/8 = 14/16 use -16

9/16 = 9/16 use -10

3/4 = 12/16 use -12

1.5" = 24/16 use -24

There are no -14, -9 or -18 AN sizes, as far as I know.
