There are five cars in our convoy, and squished in the raggedy Peugeot up front is Marty Johnson, a 40-year-old mortgage banker from Eagan, Minnesota. Just a few days ago, Marty was closing loan applications and hitting gentle grounders to his daughter’s fourth- and fifth-grade softball team. He was watching his Timberwolves take on the Sacramento Kings. But here he is now, dressed in his light blue shorts and T.G.I. FFRIDAY’S CHILI COOK-OFF ’91 T-shirt, deep inside a country he recently had trouble finding on a map, on his way to a place he never dreamed he’d visit, for a reason he still can’t quite comprehend.

top of hill 21, 0300 hours....

we were surrounded by the enemy, and we knew our chances for survival were slim to none.

So, we did the only thing good soldiers knew how to do.... we slipped past the enemy, and went back to base, where we blew the story out of proportion, by telling everyone that the three of us killed 50 men. Each.

From The Street.com:

Mazda Motor said it would scrap all the U.S.- and Canada-bound vehicles from a car-carrying ship that nearly sank this past summer.

The automaker, owned 33% by Ford , said Friday that 4,703 Mazdas will be scrapped. The vessel, the Cougar Ace, nearly capsized off the Aleutian Islands in late July.

The Cougar Ace sat listing at more than 60-degrees for nearly a month after an incident at sea, before it could be towed to the Port of Portland, Ore., for repairs and to have its cargo off-loaded.

Mazda initially said it would sell undamaged cars from the ship, but the company announced Friday that "the potential for future problems led the company to reconsider."

"We always put the customer first," Mazda said.
