over here driving school is not always available, in fact it's rare that it is for anyone who has gotten more than one moving violation.

I've had my license suspended twice as a result of not getting a lawyer and not fighting these things to keep them off my record, christi, you're quite naive to the way it works. And if you keep that attitude and continue to speed, you will end up with a suspended license and higher insurance rates than normal.

ask me how i know.

the whole system is setup to generate maximum income for itself and the parties involved in running it, you, having enough money and concern for your cost of insurance and driving privileges are expected to spend the money on the lawyer and get out of the crap, it's a economy thing.

I just got a ticket here in california and traffic school is not as gracious as it is in your states unfortunately. I got 1 point for my speed (67 in a 45) and the judge wouldn't lower it to a lessened fee or anything. Here in Cali, you pay for the ticket, then you pay for the RIGHT to take traffic school, then you pay for traffic school ITSELF. The ticket came out to 161, 190 for the right to take traffic school, and then traffic school (online, with second day air shipping of my cert because I was a lazy ***) came out to be, overall, 226.95. That's one hell of a speeding ticket, but I have no points on my license, and I can't take traffic school again for another 18 months.

So perhaps he doesn't have the cash flow

Or perhaps he's already taken traffic school sometime in the past 18 months

Or perhaps he is thinking of getting a job as a driver, and they look down upon certain amounts of points?

WHO KNOWS?! I say fight that **** all the way, if I had the money, I would have.

Thnx everyone for your input.

The ticket is written up as it should be... no faults that I can find... everything's circled and etc... and I doubt the officer is running around with an uncalibrated radar gun... though I will be asking of course...

In anycase, Christi, I don't mind admitting it was my fault unless I did it on purpose. The first ticket I got I was being stupid and I admit. But this time, it was totally unintentional. I was on the highway, only 3 or 4 other cars aside from mine. It was a rural area and naturally people were going fast (the cop even admitted that everyone was speeding, but I was the excessive speeder). I was following another car about 10 car lengths away.(keeping my distance so I don't hit the guy should he decide he needed a new car) and did not pass anyone. Though I should have checked my speedometer, I did not see any problems keeping with traffic at a safe distance and speed. Do I deserve a ticket? Maybe, but I don't deserve an insurance hike and that is what I'm trying to prevent. Furthermore, if I admit my faults, why can't cops admit their biases against us (ie. sports car owners/drivers)? When they see a nice sports car or a modified car, MOST (not all) would already presume you were speeding and would sometimes follow you for a mile to try and catch you; or, in a previous case, I was involved in an accident that was CLEARLY NOT MY FAULT. They other car (stock audi A4) rear ended me, but the cop believed the other guy's story (that I was racing him) and harassed me about my car etc. Furthermore, the other guy had alcohol in his breathe but the cop refused to admit that the other person was drinking. I'm sure many people have had similar incidences when they were harassed by police, but I see and am glad that you are fortunate enough to not have experienced it.

However, in the end, this is not about admitting one's fault and getting on with it. I would be all for it if it was a simple course I had to take as reprecussion of my error, but this is not the case. I am in NJ. Insurance companies are vultures here. Though mine is pretty good, the end cost is thousands of dollars. I would rather spend a couple hundred dollars on a lawyer and protect my investment and my *** than thousands more being honorable while I get the bitter end of the stick half the time.

If you dont understand the laws and dont have much time in a court room, its a good idea to get a lawyer. However, if you are good with words, dress nicely and can argue a point (and lie) then tickets are easy to get out of. As was said earlier, all states have different laws. I dont know yours .. but i know mine. Here is my method.. and it never fails..

1: wait a day after the last day you need to send in the ticket, then send it it (mark you want to contest and you want to supeana (sp?) the officer.

2: call the court and ask for a discovery (thats asking for the information/evidence they plan to use against you)

3: when the court date comes, wait untill 1 day before and get a continuence on the case (tell them you had to leave town)

4: if you can, on the new date tell them you couldnt get off work, and put it off longer.

5: go in for your date, the officer wont show (99% of the time) ... -- and BAM, ticket is dropped.

trick is, extend it as long as you can, while keep supeanaing the officer. When you really go in, he wont even bother with you because it was so long ago and he will be afraid you wont even show. If he does show however, there are MANY things you can do to get out of tickets. Radar is the best way. Like someone mentioned before, calibration. Ask for records on its calibration, if the officer is trained on that spacific model, etc.. if he isnt, it should be dropped. It goes way deeper than what im saying here, so i will give you a good link to read up on ways to fight tickets.

Like i said though, this is for my state, not yours... im not sure how yours works.

here is the website

In Texas you can only take Defensive driving one a year. If I got a ticket now I can take the course. But the 3 other tickets I got in the past few months I couldn't cause I already took it last year
