No, no, no. You got it all twisted, sorry I wasn't clear enough. Okay, what I was disputing was the idea that idling after hard driving would INCREASE engine heat. I wasn't saying that turning off the engine wouldn't cool it or any such dumb ****. Of course it would. As far as the timer, I thought the point was that in the gradual slowdown and cooling process the oil was circulated throughout the engine in a slow orderly process so that when the engine was shut off the oil all collects in the proper place without clogging or coking. That's correct, no? The only reason it's called a "turbo" timer is that coking is so devastating to turbos. IRL, coking is bad for all engines, right? So a "turbo" timer makes sense for all engines that are driven hard. Was that clearer?
A running engine is creating heat. And It will continue to get hotter at idle.
It is VERY unlikely a car will produce enough heat to cook oil inside the engine. The internal parts would have to be glowing red. I don't see oil cooking before something much more drastic happens at those kind of temperatures.
For the most part, turbo timers are just a way for paople to make money, and a reason for someone to put a HKS sticker on the front of their car...

About idling heating an engine, ever seen an EGT? Have you ever seen an EGT RISE at idle, other than on first starting the car? I'd love to see that on video if you could get it for me. Thx.
For the people only interested in the cheapest Greddy etc parts only for the decals inside, a timer prolly makes sense cuz in the process of getting a TT, AFR, and boost guage on an n/a engine, they only have enuff cheeze left to change oil every 6-7000 miles anyway.

What, you've never seen pics of coked oil passages before? I'll hafta scan some for you if not. Sure, it happened alot more often with factory turbo'd and nonintercooled cars which were not properly cared for

second...WHO THE **** SAID ANYTHING ABOUT EGT'S AND HOW DOES THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH COOLING DOWN YOUR MOTOR, OR YOUR OIL THAT YOU ARE SO GOD DAMN WORRIED ABOUT BEING "COKED"?!?!?!!? in response to your other smart *** comment about getting it on video... get one on video of EGT'S going down...
