On newer cars, yes. But the cats on RX7's are old design and quite restrictive. You wont gain as much power as a race pipe, but you will gain power with a gutted cat.

back in the day, the move was to buy a cheapie generic $50 cat, and take the shielding off and put it on the straight pipe
