ok so i just got a cat delete pipe from racingbeat.com. Obviously i knew i wasn't gonna have cats anymore but the thing stated that it came with an "emissions passage plate" which i thought to be something in the way of a fake cat to put on the pipe so that it passes visual inspection. When i got the thing it didn't come with anything of the sort so i emailed them and asked them about it. They didn't come anywhere near to answering my question and just said that they were obliged to tell me that the pipe isn't street legal in california blah blah whatever. My 7 is an 84 so i don't have to pass emissions but here in NY they still do the visual supposedly. Is there any place that i can find a fake cat to put on the pipe so i don't have to spend any more money on high flow cats or OEM replacements? I have until next April to get my car inspected again.

What's a fake cat but a real cat with the guts removed?

Try a salvage yard, maybe?

the emissions plate you're referring to is for a line that runs to the egr on the side of the intake manifold from the stock cat. when you do the pipe-out they assume you still have that line their so they give you a block off plate for it.

if you need to pass a safety inspection still then take a cat and heat up the platinum honeycomb with a torch, then drop in a bucket of cold water. that should break most of it up so you can knock the rest of it through with a steel rod

The old style ceramic ones can be broken out easily with a rod or pipe that fits into the cat, and break it up with a hammer. The newer metallic cats are much more difficult to get out. Last one I did, I had to cut the cat in half, pull the core out, and weld it back together.

Is is feasible to cut it in half, pull core out, and weld it back over the RB pipe? So it still retains the flow of the RB system, but looks like a cat for visual.

Yea all I need is something visual to put around the cat delete pipe so it looks like there's a cat there. My only problem is my main cat is old and rusty and the pipe is brand new otherwise I woulda just used my old one. And I did get that plate now that I know what it is cuz they wouldn't even tell me what it was. I've actually found test exhausts that look like cats but I have no experience in welding whatsoever so I may have to find some place to get my car "inspected" so I don't have to go through all the trouble. Also now that I don't have cats she smells like she's burning really rich. It smells like motorcycle or quad exhaust with the extra tinge of unburnt fuel. How do I fix that? Jet kit maybe?

i haven't seen a 7 with exhaust work that didn't smell like fuel in the exhaust lol. my coworkers describe it as my "weadeater" lol. my first first gen i owned had headers and straight pipes and i made a functional hood scoop to ram air into the carb. my friends and i tuned it time and time again but no matter what if i was getting on the gas hard i had a fireball coming from the exhaust, visible even in daylight lol
