I thought this was really a eye opener:

I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the Government distributes my tax money as they see fit.

In order to hold my job I have to take a random urine drug test. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people that don't have to pass a urine drug test to get welfare or other public assistance.

If I have to pass a urine drug test to keep my job, shouldn't one have to pass a urine drug test to get public assistance? Please understand I do not have a problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do have a problem with helping people sit on their butt and do nothing.

Can you imagine the money the government would save if the people had to pass a urine drug test to get a public assistance or welfare check?

Well dont generalize too much, my family was on welfare since i was a young kid in Brooklyn. We got WIC checks for Cereal, Milk and Baby Products. We also had foodstamps in the order of $500 to get food for the month. Dont assume everyone on welfare is just a ghetto *** person using drugs. Shame on you guys.

We used welfare for what it was for. We use it for food and housing, we then moved to Queens into a section 8 apartment, once the kids (us) were old enough to work, we began working and helping pay for our own food and what not. We then took ourselves off of WELFARE, since we already reached a point in our family where we could sustain ourselves without the help of the US Government.

Now my Moms/fams owns a beautiful house in Baldwin Long Island, i work two jobs and pay my taxes, my brother is in the Miltary and will be working for the NYPD. My older sister works for a Hotel and is married, and my little sister is finishing up school.

So yeah some people abuse welfare, and we had to bust our asses just to prove that we were poor.

In a sense im still using PUBLIC Assistance since they are paying for my college education. I got accepted to St Johns University, Manhattan COllege etc, but could not afford to pay half the tuition myself, even with assistance, so i opted to go to the City College of NY, part of the City University of NY.

So i get PELL and TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) from NY state, something that your tax and my tax is going to fund, and i think is beneficial for the people that actually use it NOT ABUSE IT.

So yeah we know most of the ppl on welfare do abuse it, and dont take advantage of the help and just see it as free money, but its not free money its TAX PAYERS money that me , and you and everyone pays.

They have begun to introduce work programs so people on welfare that receive WELFARE have to work for the city doing such jobs as Traffic Cops, Social Workers, Janitors etc, so they are reforming it, its not as it was 20 years ago. The system is slowly getting better.

So its not as bad as u think rob

yes but the crackheads raping the welfare and free money system dont DESERVE the money, cause their crackheads.

Obviously your mom must've been a standup person to manage that situation, and therefore *deserved* the assistance.

The point of this topic is that a drug test would help get rid of people who arent trying to get on their feet and are just drug wastes.

Jason, You are one of the few examples of people who actually learn that being on Welfare is not a thing to be proud of. You have worked hard already obviously. I don't know the percentage of people that abandon welfare, but I am sure it is pretty large.

Hell, Ol Dirty Bastard used welfare or food stamps, and the guy had money.

Jason-

where did I say ALL OF WELFARE?

The line about helping people who sit on thier butt DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU because you guys have improved yourselves.

of course I know there are people who need the help and fell on hard times, you and your family obviously made themselves better from it.

Meanwhile there are others who pollute thier bodies and use the system to feed thier addictions.

I did not say it everyone who is on it is bad, I dont know where you came up with that and frankly it is ME who is insulted that you would think that.
