You can get into a whle heap of trouble in a FD. My dad decided to punch it in a turn and ended up in a ditch. Luckily for him the only thing damaged was his ego.



I have driven my dads FD quite a bit - enought to know its handling characteristics. I took it down a stretch of curvy road that I take my FC on a lot. The FD scared me at high speed the rear end seemed to come unsettled during high speed cornering.



Now I understand my FC has a full racing suspension on it but it actually feels better at high speeds whereas my dads FD is a dream at lower speed.



I have heard this statement once andI think its really true.



FCs are really great street cars that make good track cars, FDs are really great track cars that make good street cars.

 

jim- you sparked my memory- the guy said that Mazda put out a car

that drove more like a race car then a street car.

 

hmm, so i shouldnt make the jump from FB to FD then, huh? specially if im gonna try and drive it daily in new jersey winter(s).



mike, how would you compare the rides between the FD and the GSLSE?(I know they are nothing alike, but your expertise on how u like em, since u own both) cause the more i think about getting or even looking at an FD, i think ill miss the GSLSE way too much.

 

I had a 1985 GS, and I would say it was one of the best cars to drive

as a daily, even a FC is a easy daily driver, a FD I dont know if I could drive one everyday. Maybe if you lived where there was no snow and ice, or you dont drive alot.

 

ive driven both FD and 91 MR2 and the FD is most definatly bigger only thing i can think of is maybe the t-tops can make the interior look decievingly bigger. anyway im obvioulsy all for FD but i have very little driving time in FC's so i have a biased opinion...

ive driven the s5tii and fd pseudo-daily..

as neither is any good for daily driving with precip..

id assume the fc na to be a better candidate..

 

Werd. I've owned an MKII Mr2 Turbo, then the MKI Mr2 NA I have now, and have sat in an FD....



...from what I remember, the FD had more space than the MKII, and the MKI had the least.

 

hmmm. My FD will be my DD from March-December. Got the integra for winter months. But I think that's applicable to any rare high-hp rwd sports car (the idea of owning a backup DD/winter car as well, in the NE)

 

the gsl-se feels a lot different, but its only slower in a straight line. its also easier to get in and out of, and loves to be beat on.



not to rail on the fd's but when we go to the track i love to sit and watch the fd guys compare intake and coolant temps after each run, and reattach the intake pipes.



i like the way the 1st gens feel, the fd always feels weird, like its gonna fall off the road. the fd is fun but the gsl-se is more fun, its really hard to explain why exactly.
