umm want me to let you know now or when they arrive at the shop?

it's one of the perks of working at a shop i guess, we have 300 page catalogs of just tires from every tire manufacturer you can think of.

the ones im planning on are bridgestones, i believe cant recall right now, but there's a couple, some from specific manufacturers who focus on skinnies, and even yokohama has some.

Now would be fine!

I was told by a local multi-line tire shop that NOBODY made a 16" tire that would fit the 4 x 16 T2 spare rim, except a "vintage" type tire appropriate for Model "T" Fords.

This is the same shop that supplied and mounted my BFG Drag T/A's, and they do a lot of performance type work. Granted, they are biased toward American iron, but I figured they would know, since they can read a catalog as well as I can (or so I figured).

So, if you would be so kind: What size did you get, and how much did they set you back?

Thanks!!!

i think its more of the tire than the width of teh rim...u dont want the spare tire bursting halfway down the track.

I agree. It's not like I want to be going through the traps at 101 and have a "temporary use only--do not exceed 50 mph" tire blow out.

Drag racers run 3.5" and 4" tires up front all the time, but they're specifically made for that purpose.

I am that somebody, I know the rim width is fine, its the material the spare tire is made of, remember these were designed for temp use, not everyday driving. Especially at drag speeds. This is where I worried.

NHRA rulebook says:

Sport COmpact RWD class rule

Tires:

All tires must be DOT accepted. Retreads, space saver spares, or

any other non-DOT-approved tire prohibited.

Wheels:

Must be automotive-type wheels suitable for street or racing use.

Minimum wheel size 13 inches unless originally equipped with

smaller wheels and vehicle is equipped with original engine. Wheel

studs must be threaded into hex portion of lug nut a distance at

least equal to the diameter of the stud. Spindle mounts prohibited.

See General Regulations 5:2.

General rules 5:25:

1 Tires

Tires will be visually checked for condition, pressure, etc. and must

be considered free of defects by the technical inspector prior to

any run. All street tires must have a minimum of 1/16-inch tread

depth. Temporary spares, space-saver spares, farm implement, or

trailer tires prohibited. Metal, screw-in valve stems mandatory in

tubeless tires, front and rear, on cars running 11.99 or quicker.

5:2 Wheels

Hubcaps must be removed for inspectors, who will check for loose

lugs, cracked wheels, worn or oversize lug holes, and condition of

spindles, axle nuts, cotter pins, etc. Snap-on hubcaps are

prohibited on any class car. Each car in competition must be

equipped with automotive-type wheels with a minimum 12 inches

the tires are actually firestone, i BELIEVE they're leftovers in the warehouse as they dont show a restocking date and the stocked date isnt available, which happens to all tires stocked before our new computer systems were installed.

i get all tires at 50-60% off, so what they set me back isn't gonna matter for you guys.

I'll try to get the exact details tomorrow but we've been very busy, lots of mitsubishis...pieces of crap.

if i find a spare hour i can drive to the warehouse and grab the tires in the van and mount them and take some pics, free hours are hard to come by tho lol.

ill keep you guys updated in threads here whenever i get around to it, its not nearly time for mounting them so its all good.
