no, it doesnt offend me, but i am white guy. a few of my racer friends are japanese and do have "ricey" cars but i dont really think of it that way, cause its the same car they would have in japan, and they are fast

rice is the kids who go drag racing, and paint the dashboard, in a 4 door civic, automatic

i also think that domestics are ricers too, i mean flowmaster is the riceiest thing ever

I think we all know what the definition of a ricer is. Its someone who mods their slow *** car to look fast but isn't.

I am more interested in whether or not it offens Japanese Americans or any oriental person.

I have never looked at the word as a racial slur. I alsway thought it referred to Japanese cars and bikes as cars from Japan and ran on rice. Sort of a joke on the car. I thought it later was applied to certain car modifiers that... well.. for a lack of a better term... Rice their cars out.

If it is an unacceptable word what would you call these people then that mod their cars in such a fashion.

I mean with the mention of one word I can descibe a car to any of you and you know exactly what I am talking about. "Did you see that Riced out Civic". So if that is in such poor taste to say that what does one say as to not offend??

My Bravada has a flowmaster.. It's actually the best sounding note I've had from that 4.3L V6. That thing is so goddamn slow that performance aspirations are pointless without the v8 swap, so i went for a modification that I can at least get some auditory enjoyment out of.. That and the stock muffler had a hole. It's kind of dense of ya to say that flowmaster, which is a company that manufacturers mufflers, is ricey. They have a lot of real performance offerings.

I would have to join in disagreeing with Mike about Flowmasters being "ricey", but then, you never really know when Mike is being facetious.

Because the term "rice" applies to cars and not people, I can't see how it could be (mis)construed to be a racist slur.

Also, I have always felt that it is more the nature of the mods than the car you do them to. Stickers, big wings, and fancy wheels worth as much as the car. That is the essence of rice.

Even a white kid driving a Jetta with ricer-like add-ons can be called rice. Its curent meaning is not racist at all.
