Does it? Over at this Mini Cooper website there are these guys running around screaming its racist and politcally incorrect.

I know we have some Japanese members here. So from the horses mouth do you find the teem offensive??

JTurtonRX_7 10-27-2003 09:01 AM

i dont see how it would ever be connected to tastefully modded rx-7's. Doesnt the term ricer mean someone who, no matter what the make of the car, puts a nice universal muffler, fake performance items, and crazy paint jobs and stickers on a car.

Baldy 10-27-2003 09:06 AM

I think Jims is leaning more toward the racial/cultural meaning behind it, eluding to the Japanese.

I R not Japanese. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

I think he's talking about the origin of the term 'ricer,' which is racist. The import 'hot rodding' craze started in Southern California many years back with the Japanese-American community, who expressed their interest in cars and their pride in their cultural heritage by emulating thier counterparts back home. In those early days, the majority of import tuners were asians, and so the rest of the tuner community in the states jokingly coined them as 'ricers,' because we all know that asian people eat a hell of a lot of rice. Now, the term has expanded to pretty much the definition that JTurtonRX_7 has stated. However, the origin of the term is racist, it's completely up to you if you want to be offended by it. When it all comes down to it, it's just a word, and by it's current definition, it really doesn't carry any derogitory meaning toward asians at all.

Well, If I drive a lifted Ford with dangerously large tires, people call me Redneck. Doesn't bother me at all. Does that mean I am a farm plowing, wife-beating, confederate flag-toting hick? No.

FrestyleFC3S 10-27-2003 11:47 AM

The term "Ricer" doesn't bother me as far as from a racial standpoint....well, I guess it all depends on how you see it/use it.

I use the word as a play on the word "racer".

RICER - n. (rye-sir). 1. An import car owner who claims that they can race, yet is more concerned about slapping a tip on their EXH system, a giant set of speakers, and more counterproductive modifications to their vehicles. 2. A Honda owner who claims that the massive amount of stickers on their vehicle of choice is an increase in performance. Also known for fixing large, unnecessary wings to the back of their FF cars, not out of necessity, but because "it looks cool", whereas any FR owner with sense would know the wing is counterproductive since no downforce is necessary in an FF.

But, like I said, depends on who's using it and how..*shrug*

FrestyleFC3S 10-27-2003 12:02 PM

hmm....no downforce is needed in FWD?......what are you talking about...
