All about revenue ehh? Lets do the math shall we...

Lets say troopers make approx. $36K a year

$36,000 / 52 weeks = $692.31 weekly salary

$692.31 / 40 hours = $17.31 hourly

8 troopers for an 8 hour shift cost $1107.84 in labor

Fleet fuel and vehicle maintenance costs...

$40 dollars in fuel per cruiser for 250 miles (V8s and lots of idle time)

.25cents per mile in maintenance (very conservative estimate)

so 250 miles would be $62.5 per cruiser

8 cruisers would be $820.00 worth of fuel and maintenace

The plane would prolly cost $400.00 or more a shift to fly when you think about aviation fuel, pilot salary, plane depreciation and maintenance.

Clerk salary to process the tickets lets say 40 man hours at $9.00 an hour... $360.00

Court personnel salaries for those who do contest the tickets... 8 hours at various pay rates...

Prosecution $192

Public defender $192

Bailiff $96

Judge $248

Stenographer $72

Clerk $72

For a grand total of... $3559.84

They would have to give everyone a ticket in order for this to work if the road is as vacant as described...
well i dont dispute those numbers but dont they have to pay those guys anyway? its not like they hired those guys just to setup a speed trap. its more like they had those guys in a speedtrap instead of casing donut joints for sales

Yeha they would be paying these guys anyway. I just did not see it as a big revenue generator was my point! Kinda costly in fact.

They might have to pay OTHER guys overtime to do the real policing in the meantime though.

You've got 10 guys ensuring the hell outta the public safety on this 1/2 mile, what about the rest of the county?

just to let everyone know who didnt... planes arent using radar or laser most of the time. usually they time you from point a to point b. like between mile markers or something. that way they are undetectible

I don't think there is much of anything in that county.

ah, i wasn't trying to bust your *****, I was just saying that the money invested into the police force is money already spent, whether they are investigating murders and/or filling in forms at a desk, ect, ect. It's just when they are setting up speed traps and writing bogus tickets they are paying for their time and then some. I've heard of a single cop writing 20 tickets in an hour before.

Average ticket = $100 x 20 = $2000 - their gas/wages/wear on car ect ect for that hour = $1960 profit in an hour. So the figures can be worked that way too.
