Ok heres the deal, as most of you know my seven's motor don't work. I have an opportunity to get parts off an '86 motor, but i need to know whats wrong with mine first. The problem is, my dad won't let me pull the motor. He claims its cuz i don't rlly have any money at the moment(who does), and because he wants to do it with me.

Understandable, but hes talking bout everything else he has to work on, and how it will be months before we get to it. PROBLEM. I want my seven while i'm still in my senior year, i'm sure you can understand that problem. Whats your advice for getting him to let me pull this motor and check it out?

I must also note i'm notorious for losing bolts and such, but i plan to take my time and label things, bag things, etc. I mean i am really into this car, and the largest level motor i really had my hand in was a Yamaha Blaster motor.

Listen to your dad, when I was 18 I took my first car apart thinking I was going to have the engine and tranny swapped in a weekend or 2. It was 1989, and the car was a 1984 Trans Am.

Layed the whole thing out on paper beforehand, parts I was going to need, I thought I knew it all.

Well, once I got into the project ( taking the motor OUT is the easiest thing ), un-forseen costs and time stretched my project out into almost 5 months. I also ran out of money at the time. So not being one to EVER ask for money from my dad, my car sat a prisoner in our garage for months. Finally my dad asked me what was wrong and how much money I needed. Well, almost $2000 later my car ran, and I had a payment plan with my dad.

What were the costs I had'nt planned on?

The "gently used" tranny my friend had sold me was a piece of ****, needed a new one, not to mention the bellhousing was all wrong anyhow so I had to **** can the whole thing and I bought a brand new one. Tranny mounts, driveshaft.

Starter wouldnt clear the headers.

Used timing cover ended up leaking, needed a new one.

Headers wouldnt bolt up to the Gale Banks exaust without a test pipe ( thank god Gale Banks sold me the pipe for $9, lol, but it took a month to get it )

The intake manifold I also thought would suit my needs did, but it didnt clear the hood, so I needed a new intake manifold, more money.

The used carburator was also ****....

it adds up, no matter how much or how long you think you need for a project add money and a time buffer, you will need it.

Simple, TECHNICALLY its his car, the title is in his name. They're his tools, etc. Besides, i know sometime thru this i'll need his help, and i don't want to have to kill myself over asking for it...

if his car doesn't run then he has nothing to lose my taking it apart. And yes rob i know what u mean i took my car apart last year thinking i would have it back in a week,it took me 5 months to figure out a lot of problems, but it was winter time so i didn't care.
