I'm not really into this stuff, but I still have to admit that these are really cool: http://www.baize.org/hfh.wmv

Man, that was pretty cool! I wonder how many they went through before they got it right. Radio signals can get interrupted fairly easy, I know it doesn't take much and the older speed controls would just stay on the last setting transmitted, I watched a 1500 dollar car just race off in the distance, wide open throttle, and destroy it's self into a retaining wall.
The coolest thing about r/c is it can be duplicated into a manned craft...

hmm, I had a sponsorship from '85 -'87 from a local hobby shop that supplied us with all the latest and greatest. Electronic speed control was just making an appearance, but most of the cars had servo contolled speed controls, all it took was an ambulance or squad car rolling by and it would interrupt the signal. Spectators used to get injured, the parking lot tracks for gas powered cars were made of galvanized angle iron, when the throttle stuck, a corner marshall had no change of grabbing a car before it launched into the crowd.
