Yeah, unfortuatly most southern states have the worst public education systems. Its also more common to find completely retarded people down in the more midwest/southern states. Not saying everyone in that area is stupid, because idiots live everywhere... I'm just saying its more common as a whole.
Do you have any support to your claim?

The confederate flag, as I've witnessed in my whole life living in the south, is defended as a sign of heritage. Usually the people waving it can't give you any more support than that (not that there aren't more reasons). But you generally don't find anyone waving it around who isn't an incredible redneck (nascar, large truck, does dip, low intelligence, etc.).

Well now maybe off a little but living in the redneck parts of Washington State all my life untill last year -- never did I see a confederate flag on or flying from a car -- a regular one yes. Now that I have moved to florida I have been exposed to lots of confederate flags and an enormous amount of racism -- call it a quinky dink -- people may claim heritage but really now tell me there is no connection to poorly edjucated -- ( I work with people that are dumber than most 10 year olds in washington)-- not that Washington has a great edjucation system it just doesn't breed racism and hate like I see here, I don't see any public controls over it here where as in Washington employers are hightly motivated to keep things in check -- here peoples emotions run wild especially without social controls on these kinds of issues. Also I would say a poorer edjucation here(Florida) -- purely my opinion no truth to it -- because republicans run wild and refuse to logically look at facts -- how can you call yourself edjumacated if you choose to blindly follow without knowing what you are following.-- A guy I work with makes 70K a year and believes that the US's deficiet (sp) has not effect on our ecconomy -- he thinks we can have whatever deficit we want and not be able to make interest payments on it even and that is okay becasue we are the US so it's not big deal... Okay now i'm off topic.. SORRY.

Wage reference was only meant as that's quite a bit per year for our little town so here that is about as intelligent as you get and to me that is just retarded that you are successful and make good money but still fail to pocess the ability to make logical decisions.

From the south, I don't fly a rebel flag anywhere. It is misunderstood quite often as a racial thing, and many of the rednecks in my area who have one are racist to some degree. Most defend it as heritage because it's a cliche argument that seems to end the conversation pretty quickly. That said, when I see one, I don't think it's a racial thing at all because I'm very well aware of the history behind it and what it represents (thanks to my granddad who is an avid fan of the war.)

OK, so let's think about this on another level. The civil war is probably one of the darkest times in US history, it was father fighting son, brother fighting brother, we were killing eachother.

Racist or not, it would seem to me that flying the confederate flag is a celebration of a time that no american should be proud of.

slaves were owned by both the north and the south in the days prior to the war.... the war had nothing to do with slavery.. it was to prevent the splitting of the nation. However, most hicks with the confederate flag have no idea about the history behind it at all, and just uses it as a racist trademark.

PS. **** nascar too.

Culture makes it racist, history doesn't? It would seem to me that there are many examples in cultures world wide where a cultural belief might outweigh fact, doesn't mean it is ok.

There are a lot of things we accept as part of a culture that have little if any fact to back them up. White hoods and capes are just clothes, but it doesn't mean it's socially acceptable to wear them shopping, nor doesn't it mean they aren't racist symbols of the KKK.

The **** party stood for more then just killing non-whities, but the fact remains that getting a **** tattoo is racist. You going to sit there and explain to everyone that you support the **** party because they had great ideas on economics, or political structure?

Cruising around with your rainbow sticker on your car trying to explain to everyone that there is no "fact" to say a rainbow sticker means you are gay. No matter wut the facts are, when society views something as socally unacceptible then isn't that the case?

Yeah, like how the swastika really meant something like "superiority and success" (I can't remember) but that's not the connotation associated with it, right? So the confederate flag has some meaning, but the general connotation is that it's held high by racists (which is far as I've witnessed is mostly true).

Same thing with the word "cracker" for white people. There is a long line of Floridians who are proud to be decendants of the crackers (nothing to do with slavery or racism). But it's generally used as some sort of insult (one I don't really understand or take offense to).

I have learned about the civil war many times in high school and college. I know why we fought the war. But everytime I see a confederate flag I think that the person is racist. This is not always true but everyone I have meet that has one on their truck or car turns out to be. I know about the war but symbols are a powerful thing in this country. To many that flag sybolizes slavery and oppression. I know I would never display that flag even though many of my ancestors were from the south and fought in the war.
