I set the jumper to CABLE SELECT, is that right or should I make it slave?

how do I get XP to format it and assign it a drive letter or whatever?

If you have XP Pro, you need to right click on My Computer and go to manage...then go to the Disk Management.

Assign it a letter and quick format it. Done.
